Ok, I have a 5 D-cell mag, and I want a big more umph out of it, so here was my battle plan:

Put in a KPR112 bulb, or possibly a Xenon version of the same bulb if it can be found...the bulb is rated at 6.0 volts, putting out a 5.46 brightness (MSCP)... Is this bulb ok to use in a 7.50 volt light? If not, what is the best bulb to use, preferably one that radio shack sells..And what are the "new" mag brand bulbs that are supposed to be a world of difference?

Secondly, I was going to add writeright to smooth out the lens...

Anything else I should do to the light?

Try the HPR 50 from RS. 5.2v halogen 6.76 MSCP.

Should last just as long as the one you want to try and definatly brighter whiter light. Around 105-110 lumens.

M*g home site claims 18000 "Peak beam candlepower"

sounds like a proprietary measurement to me...

"White Star® Krypton (Standard) (LPHE)
Every Maglite® lamp is specifically designed to deliver a bright, white, far reaching, light beam without excessive battery demand."

"Mag-num Star® Krypton Lamp (Optional) (LPHC)
Heavy duty construction for rugged applications."

No actual measurements or hard numbers posted on their home site..

Sorry

Hardly any one uses lumens ratings except SF.

All I can say is try the mod and see for yourself!

My 6D w/5 cell and my 2C/3-123L w/6v from RS both put out way more light than my Surge and throw a tad farther than my SL6.

The HPR 50 halogen is brighter than both bulbs I have when overdriven.

If I rember correctly ReconTech you have a Ultra Stinger. I would bet this mod. it is very close in output and throw.
