More downsides to EVs. Too heavy for how America's guardrail system is built. Unsafe when colliding with lighter weight vehicles. Causing accelerated damage to asphalt & highways due to excessive weight.

Cue the troll. Time for a speech. Stand back. Make room. šŸ˜ :dedhorse: šŸ‘€ šŸš

Not an argument for or against the EV.
The nations guardrail system is woefully unprepared for the current crop of SUV type vehicles. They're too short in many cases, too soft in many cases and the EV only highlights an already existing problem.

The largest amount of guardrail systems was designed for sedans weighing a lot less than the taller crop of safety feature loaded "cars" on the road now.

Since Y2K the feds have been paying for D.O.T's across America to upgrade to a better design, more equipped to handle the taller, heavier vehicles on the road today. As the D.O.T's upgrade pavements like asphalt overlays or widening, federal $ are added to upgrade guardrails for those projects.

When travelling along, if/when you see a run of guardrail with a segment that is several inches takler than the rest, that was likely a repair made to an existing segment using the new standards.

In 2019 the feds released a new set of standards that takes into account the current "average" automobile. It's a fine balance between stiff enough to stop a vehicle from hitting the hazard the guardrail is protecting us from and soft enough to not cause injuries by sudden stopping at speed. So for some vehicles the guardrail is a harzard too. For some it's not adequate.

Even topped up a regular IC car doesn't weigh as much as an EV of similar size, considering the overall weight of the battery pack the engine and transmission of an IC car is less of a concern.

FUD. The average EV is 3,200 to 5,000 pounds. The Average SUV is 6,000 pounds, the Cybertruck is 6,800 pounds the Ford Lightening is over 7k pounds and the Hummer EV is 9,000 pounds. I don't see the problem.

Haha, look in the mirror, Mr. Mediocre.

That Ford you mention, is that the one that's getting discontinued due to lack of sales? People are onto the scam.

Do your "manmade climate change" research, and look at the opposition articles, if you're as smart as you pretend to be. You won't find it on google, you have to do real research. But I know that's not in the cards for you. You're in too deep. You fall for the fake news ... hook, line, sinker - cha chinggggg. They're bleeding you dry. hahahahaha

Looks like you don't read. That Ford was a 1980 Courier,
Toyo Kogyo. The Courier was manufactured by Toyo Kogyo (Mazda) and imported to North America and sold by Ford Motor Company as a response to the unforeseen popularity of the small Toyota and Nissan/Datsun Pickups, sans Engine. Modified by Jet Industries of Texas. They also modified Escorts and Omni's. Very rudimentary EVs using forklift motors and golf cart batteries. They kept the transmission.

There are plenty of vehicles already on the roads that weigh more than the average EV so why is this being raised as a EV issue?

To me it has the smell of fossil fuel financed BS about it, remember when the cigarette industry claimed that their products were good for us?!

Ford cut production because they lose on each truck because they can't figure out the production equation like Tesla and the Chinese. Bankruptcy is a possibility because emissions standards is the wall they can't climb.Despite pouring billions of investors' dollars into electric vehicles and billions more from federal and state governments, EV sales growth is slowing. Ford is cutting planned production of its electric F-150 in half for 2024, after losing $60,000 per electric vehicle sold.Dec 15, 2023. Me, as I am an enthusiastic shade tree, I actually made money on that truck. http://www.evalbum.com/611 The best selling car in the world is the Tesla Model Y. What you consider an expensive car. I look upon it as freedom from the Saudis and Exxon.

We have more liquid gold under our feet than any other nation. So reliance on all the bad actors we are enriching is so unnecessary.
There was a funny video that depicted what it would be like if everything ran on gas and diesel. I remember an office scene with a diesel microwave and all the computers running on fossil fuel spewing out billows of black smoke. It was hilarious. Being a reasonable guy who likes to drive a variety of vehicles with an open mind leaning more big diesel truck or jeep but not opposed to EV technology I haven't gone mad and can still laugh at very clever over the top jokes.
If we are indeed going to reach out to the depths of space we will need everything electric/solar but remember it doesn't rain or get cloudy in space and weight isn't a problem.

Besides the lack of gasoline cost, is there any positives to EVs?

You can get subsidies from people on medicare to buy a tesla:

You can get free/government funded chargers/charging stations if you live in a low income area like martha's vineyard:

you don't have to pay any gas taxes to maintain the roads.

And you get to lecture everyone on how much of a superior being you are by saving the planet!

I did math on road taxes before in other thread, about 600 a year, based on 12000mi a year. They should charge 600 more a year for registration fees for EV,
