ive never modded a light.

well i did convert my 2 x d maglite to a 3 x c with a lenght of pipe :twothumbs

now im wondering, for about $140 in parts, what would be a fun and simple project for a new lumen enthusiast?

or should i just go get a cr123 pocket rocket?

mag 2c - $20
3x123 - $10
malkoff 4-6c- $68 (shipped)
pvc pipe- $1
total $99
250 lumen super crazy sleeper light, that will light up a stop sign at a quarter mile.

i think you might be right,

but i just got my malkoff 2-3 D and a new mag 2 x D light two days ago:ohgeez:

can i power this

in a single D mag for any length of time? (1 hour?) rechergables?

its pure madness,

it has to be more sensible to buy a finshed light from a respected manufaturer?

Why don't you go for a P7 or MC-E light in direct drive of 3 NiMH C-Cells?

Its much cheaper and brighter than a Malkoff drop-in: 800-900 torch lumen for under 35$ if you got the host already. :twothumbs

Litemania is selling the P7 and the heatsink at the market place:

edit:

If you really want to spend 140$ here is my suggestion:

Get 3 P7s or 3 MC-Es ~65$
Get 3 LiIon C-Cells (AW if you want quality or DX if you want it cheap) 25-66$
Get a custom heat sink ~20$
Get 3 reflectors ~30$

In total its 140$ if you get the DX cells and a crazy 2000+ lumen out of the business end.

There was a thread not long ago showing a Mag host with 3 MC-Es with 5A tint but i don't find it right now. This is not a Mag but shows the idea:

That's about how much it cost me to build my quad head M@G... see my sigline. There are enough walkthroughs on the forum that are helpful if you've never done anything like this before. Not exactly what you want to cut your teeth on but if you take your time and think through everything, you'll do fine and have a lot of fun!

My choice for a simple light in this price range would have to be a single P7 M*g. My build is like this.

2 D host=20$
KD 2x 32600 D cell pack with charger 40$ here
UCl lens (not a must but I like it) 8$ at flashlightlens.com
C bin emitter and heatsink from britelumens 40$ here
KD 3 mode buck converter 12$ here
KD shorty gold tail spring 6$ here

P7 emitter are rated at 8-900 lumens. In theory this light will run about 3 hours on high (although I have not ran it that long) It is VERY bright. I would guess about 200 lumens MORE than my SSC P7. You will also need some thermal epoxy to glue the emitter on this mod, and I recommend some applying some thermal grease to the driver and then sticking it to the wall of the light with a bit of electrical tape so the driver runs cooler. If you choose to do this type of mod, step by step instructions can be found on the fourum or feel free to PM me for additional help. Have fun..

I have also been looking into the Malkoff Triple. I only want to use it in a 3C or 3D Mag. But
(1) I don't know if that is the best choice?
(2) I don't know there is a way to use multiple CR123's to get more power/ output/ runtime?

as long as you dont exceed the voltage of the malkoff dropin, i think you can use any battery type you want.
