This is something I'm curious about. For all the E2s, G2s, M3s, Scorpions, Magchargers, etc. there are tons of small-brand "high tech" flashlights out there. What lights in this catagory do you guys like? Stuff no one's heard of but works great.

Only going on output UK SL6. Downside, it's big it uses 6C's and its plastic switch is a lever. But it's a cheap way to make a bunch of light. a really deep reflector gives it a mean hotspot that throws. On set of fresh batteries the reflection of your palm makes you squint.

I carry the UKE 2L in my rucksack all the time. I travel with it. It's a great little flashlight - fantastic alternative for some applications to the "high-speed low-drag" SureFires I EDC.

I think the Princeton Tec Rage 4AAA is a great little flashlight too. I give them away to friends and family when they want a small flashlight.

Hello ABTOMAT,

Sidespill has pointed out the UK SL6, but I found it a bit big to carry around.

I have the SL4. It is more comfortable to carry, has the same pencil beam as the SL6 and is only a little less bright. I have been very pleased with it.

Here's another vote for the Princeton Tec Rage. Surprisingly bright for a 4AAA, has a long throw, is virtually unbreakable, waterproof, and costs next to nothing.

This is an easy one: Koehler Brightstar 4AA with NIMH cells overdriving a 3 cell krypton PR based bulb. This one is really a retina burner with the tightest beam I've ever seen on a flashlight and a huge bang for the buck. On top of that, it's hazardous rated and waterproof to 100 feet, with a tailswitch.

Rage. Tec-40. Rage. all are great lights.

and the #1 under-rated incan i own:
Dorcy Boss 4AA.
you can find them for $4 or less. it is essentially a poor-man's Tec-40.
but you need to replace the crappy stock bulbs with KPR-113 (or XPR-113) which cost $1.50 for two. the stock bats are crappy, so replace them too (about $2).

for about $8, you have a light which is:
very inexpensive, quite bright, great beam, decent throw, holds a spare bulb, runs on cheap AA bats (you can use lithiums too), inexpensive PR bulbs, rubber armored, clickie switch, water resistant.
for $2 you can get a 4-cell two LED PR drop-in for long-lasting light.

ps gonna have to try one of those koehler-brightstars...

edited to add the Rage!

I'm not that crazy about the Rage. I heard nice things about it here so went to the store to buy one, but found it sort of ungainly, and a bit of a drag to keep fed with batteries (4 at a time). The UKE 2L just seemed nicer all around (brighter, much more runtime, fit in my hand better and is a little shorter than the Rage). So as not to leave empty-handed, I bought the Rage's 2aaa little brother, the Blast, which became one of my favorite lights. I've bought over ten Blasts since then, for my own use and to give out as presents. It's a very sweet little light, very EDC'able, waterproof, and brighter than a Minimag at much lower weight and size.

At the other end, the Vector spotlight that costs under $20 and is around as bright as a Surefire M6. It's not ultra-rugged and it's too large to EDC, but as a very bright car light or whatever, it's hard to beat.
