I live in the UK, and work at a summer Camp in Maine each year as a Pioneering Instructor, we're known as the "Trippers" by the campers, as it's our role to take a bunk (up to 30 kids, ten adults) away for overnight or two night trips away from camp. We have some great times camping in Northern Maine, and some lovely walks up various mountains and hills in the region.
I need a rucksack/suitable bag to carry on day walks that will meet my needs for the various pieces of equipment I need to carry.
On top of my personal equipment I need to carry various items as dictated by being responsible for such a large group of people. These include:
Can anybody suggest anything suitable, I like the versatility of the Maxpedition gear-slingers, but don't like the single strap arrangement. I'm not averse to a modular system either, especially I would like the first aid kit to be detachable as when I return to camp this needs to be retuned to the infirmary for re-stocking.
What can you guys suggest?

I need a rucksack/suitable bag to carry on day walks that will meet my needs for the various pieces of equipment I need to carry.
On top of my personal equipment I need to carry various items as dictated by being responsible for such a large group of people. These include:
- Extra water (usually 3 x 1Litre nalgene style water bottles.)
- Sat Phone (Used last year to coordinate helicopter rescue of camper with compound fracture of Tibia…)
- Large/comprehensive first aid kit, currently in metal Ammo tin and a real pain to carry!
- Paperwork (Medical forms for campers, trip plan, permits etc)
- Money/Cheques/Credit/Fuel cards
- Extra Epi-Pens – must be in easy reach
- Various medical supplies ( as trip leader I have to be accountable for all campers meds, American kids seem to need much more meds than the kids I'm used to at home! I usually end up with a large carrier bag full of those daily pill boxes.
- Basic survival gear including a few foil blankets
- Snacks for the whole group! I have to carry these, or they wouldn't make it to the campsite, never mind the top of the hill!
