Hi,

My ARC AAA 3.1 flickers. Sometimes it won't even turn on. What do I need to do? Thanks!

Thanks,

It looks like too much work. Can I just send it back to ARC? Or do I need to buy a new one?

Yes! We have a 10 year warranty on them! Send it back and let us take care of the flicker for you.

Nope, the one you sent me works fine. It's my EDC along with an E2e now. Never leave home without it.

Thanks Peter....woohooo. This darn flickering was getting on my nerves. These darn things are addicting. I started out with the CPF Member Edition and now I have 9 different ones! ARE YOU PUTTING NICOTINE IN THESE THINGS?

Uh-oh! Was it the one you got from me? Although it got very little use, it never flickered for me.

ED:

I don't know which one it is. It's no big deal, I have 2 LEs, 1 CPF, 1 UV, 1 Turquoise and 4 whites so I just sent it in for repair. I won't even miss it since I have others I can carry in the meantime.

I bought some on Ebay so it could be one of those. I hate packages so I throw them all away and it all sits on my shelf so I don't really know where I got it from.

About 5 minutes ago my much beloved LE passed away.(sniff) I've had it since last November and it had flickered occasionally over the last few months, but never enough to make me want to give it up long enough to send it back.

I went out to the truck to get something and turned it on to make sure there weren't any snakes about and it was in "moon mode" so I figured I needed a new battery. I use it a LOT.

Back in the house I put in a new battery and only got an intermittent "moon" a coupla times and then nothing!

I remembered reading about the "roll crimp" so I thought I'd give it a try. But I didn't want to rip off the battery retainer so I just did the "45 degree roll" on the anvil face of my bench vise without removing the retainer or epoxy or any of the solder tricks.

A VERY small amount of the edge of the battery retainer was sheared off by the rolling action. With trembling hands I put in a new battery and screwed the head down. WooHooo!!!! I have light!!!

I don't know if that is the "real" way to do it, but it worked for me and took about 10 seconds!

Thanks for a great little light, Peter!

That's a good way of doing it. You can also slip a flat-bladed screw driver just under the lip of the retainer the same way. Ding a couple of divots in the edge, and you're good to go. Me? I do both the roll AND the dings.

I keep trying to tell folks that it is LESS hassle to perform the fix than to send it it... but I also understand not wanting to fool with it.

Yeah that's the way I did mine, just pressed it down hard on a table and rolled it (if it's the 'roll crimp fix' then you roll it, right?:>) -- it had a very slight flicker, now not.
But I hear tell the reason it's called the 'roll crimp' is because that's the way Mr. Peter G. fixes them at the factory...
