I'm hooked on flashlights. I love all types. I would really like to own an ARC or almost any of the other exotic and expensive lights. Unless someone out there is willing to unload a ARC at a bargan deal, I will have to stick to the low priced lights. Back in October, Radio Shack was supposed to be giving away a free light.(They use to do this all the time years ago) I went in as soon as I read it here on CPF but the store clerks knew nothing of the free light. I asked them to check for me. Since I buy lots of stuff from them, they all know me. Today I walked in and there on the counter was a translucent blue light! It has been over 2 months since my request for the light and I asked if the light was one of the free give away lights.(I was buying something so I didn't feel too unconfortable asking) The store manager said this is our "last light" I smiled at her and she dropped it in my bag ! I was very happy. As soon as it got dark I put in 2"D batteries"and went out to test it. It is the tightest basic 2 "D" flashlight I have ever used ! It is very bright with some side spill with some artifacts in the side spill but a great reaching tight center spot. You can't beat the price !!

Lingpau, I don't know what you consider affordable, but for $40 or so you can get a Nuwai QIII whose beam is as good as anything Arc ever made. The finish and construction is not as good as an Arc, but it's perfectly functional for most purposes.

If you just want a keychain light, KevinL is selling some nice ones (coin cell squeeze type) for $1.25 each. Those will make about as much light as an Arc AAA. Of course they won't run for as long on a set of batteries, etc., but they're useable for most of the same purposes.

My favorite free light was a little keychain lite DaGunn gave away at Photon Fest '04 in December. An ingenious switch, bright led light and cool look made it fun!

It's almost your one year CPF birthday, Ken, happy torches! (I'm only a week behind ya!)
