My first flashlight (and post!!)

Hi all

I just thought I'd actually register and post a question on here regarding a torch I've just bought.

I bought the following from deal extreme.

It is a TrustFire SSC P7-C 900-Lumen LED. I was just wondering what people thought of it. I am a total novice with torches. I will only be using it when I'm walking the dog or going into the loft. I haven't been camping for years!!

As you can tell, it cost me $40 and the reviews looked good (from amateurs). Any advice would be good but considering I've already bought it and am waiting for it to be delivered, please don't be too harsh with me!!

I am not familiar with the light but it does sound like the type many buy around here. My guess is that it should be worth the $$ if you paid about 40 for it. I would not be sure of the 900 lumens part.

you might have to wait a quite long time for that order to arrive if you're unlucky, dx is known for that.
those cheap P7 lights were the latest and greatest like two years ago. don't believe the 900 lumen rating, it's probably going to be around half of that.

what batteries did you buy for it?
I suggest you educate yourself about battery safety in the battery subforum.

Welcome to CPF! It will be plenty bright for dog and loft duties even if it only puts out 1/3rd of its claimed lumens. Don't shine it in your dog's (or anyone else's) face. Which of the following did you get?

We'd be able to help you more if we knew what you got. Are you familiar with 18650 Li ion batteries? Do you know you can't charge them with a NiMH charger and you can't put any "normal" batteries (AA, AAA, C or D) in these lights? It's the batteries that are really different here. All flashlights have a handle and a bright, hot end you point away from yourself :) Many of these lights will be destroyed if you put the battery in backwards so be sure you don't do that.
