Myo XP again...

Hi!
I thought that this post wouldn't fit to other Myo XP threads, I hope you don't mind starting anew...

I own the older model of Myo XP, the dark blue one. Probably a dumb question: Would a cell phone Li-ion battery or some other 3,6volt rechargeable lithium work instead of 3x1,2volt NiMH? What if I connect 3 Li-ions in parallel so the voltage wouldn't increase?

And another qustion... I've read other threads about replacing the LED in Myo XP, most of them quite old. Which is the current recomended upgrade LED for this lamp, still the seoul p4? And I heard some people saying that they have a lot more flood after the mod - if I'd like to retain the throw ability is this a mod worth doing?

Hi, welcome to the CPF, you can use a single li.ion cell, you can use 2 or 3 in parallel, that way you will increase the runtime, I mod mine time ago with a Soule P4, I think that will better if you use a XP-G, with this Led you will increase the lumen and the throw because the die in this Led is smallest... Happy mod...

Someone may correct me, but I thought NiMH was not recommended for the older Myo Xp. There was problems with the higher current toasting some of the electronics. I don't know about li-on. I know that lithium primaries also caused a problem. That's whatvjacked up my older Xp.

My new Xp, with the Seoul, seemed to suffer the same fate. It works when I jiggle the wire going into the housing, I just haven't taken the case apart

No, the only problem was sh.... power cable that was replaced in all Myo XP series headlamps produced after Jun/Jully 2010.

A few years ago, I used my blue Myo XP as a bike light on daily basis. I believe I had been using it for some 2-3 years. One morning in April 2008, after changing the rechargeables and putting the light into my bike bag, the wire short circuited with some smoke and glow, ruining the light and batteries but luckily not causing any other damage (like igniting the clothes or papers in the bag that was still open). There had been a few warnings (light turning of suddenly), but I didn't recognize it as a sign of faulty wires. The light was sent to Petzl for examination. It took two months. In their reply they told me, that they have received headlamps with cut wires (due to intensive use) regularly, but in my case the damages had been unique and they hadn't been able to replicate them in laboratory. They also stated that they were working on a modification and as a precaution, they are going to alert all customers to not use rechargeables with their headlamps any more.

I got a grey Myobelt XP as a replacement. I didn't use it very long, due to wire failure (again... nothing dramatic this time though). I didn't contact them any more but changed to another light. So, according to the answer by Szemhazai, it looks like it might have been a construction failure again and not just my fault. I guess I shall send a message to local importer after all. They were replacing all "cable-dammaged" Myo's without special problems in Poland (and they still do).

So, according to the answer by Szemhazai, it looks like it might have been a construction failure again and not just my fault. I guess I shall send a message to local importer after all. Thanks for the info.

A little update... I finally wrote to local importer a month ago. They knew about the cables and replacements but denied that it had been a real quality issue in manufacturing, because "less than 2% of all lights has been fixed". Then they said that Myo had 3 years warranty, which could stretched a few months, maximally half a year. And "they would be glad to replace it, but because they wouldn't be compensated by Petzl any more, they are not going to do it."

In other words, if I contacted when the cable broke down first time (3,5 years ago), or when it broke down the second time from different place (last summer), or perhaps even when we talked about it in this thread, they would have fixed the light. But because it was something like 3 years and 10 months since I got the headlamp, it was too late.

It would be funny to quote their views on (for example) how Nao will probably conquer all the markets of medium sized headlamps, but, well, I guess that is a matter of different thread.
