N type batteries

Hi all,
I am looking at an optical scope for my shotgun. The scope I am looking at uses an 'N' type battery. I use D, C, AA, AAA and cr123's to power my lights and granddaughter's toys. What is the advantage(or disadvantage) of using an N type battery over, say AA's. I can get the same scope in matte black which runs on AA's, but I am more interested in the Realtree camo model which uses the 'N' type battery.

Welcome to CPF.

The basic difference is the capacity of the cell. The N cell has around 800 mAh where the AA cell has around 2500 mAh.

Also, the AA cell can be found most anywhere, but you will have to look for the N cell.

There is only one advantage: They are small and light.

Having less capacity than even AAA's, but costing more, you need to be strapped for space and weight to use them. I have some nice Peak brass keychain lights that use them, and I opted to grab some Interstate NiMH rechargables for them. Not huge capacity, but the current draw is low, so they run long anyway, and can be recharged. Very reasonably priced, but I can't find them now. There are some other options here:

If the device has low power consumption, and/or won't be on for long periods, using alkalines might not break the bank, though.
