Narrowed it down to 3 \"beater\" flashlights

PT Impact XL
PT Surge
UK 4AA eLED

Comments? Where can I get it that's the cheapest in Canada? (I'm a student /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif) Thanks!

Re: Narrowed it down to 3 \"beater\" flashlights

Having owned the last 2 of your 3 picks I would say the uk4aaeled. Decent spill, decent throw, regulated 10+ hour runtime, waterproof to 10 feet, nice switch, lockout head. Brightguy has them on sale for $20 right now.

Re: Narrowed it down to 3 \"beater\" flashlights

That was what I was thinking too. I was surprised when I saw it being that cheap but the XL has such a nice body.

Just a question, I've read that the Surge cannot utilize rechargeable batteries.. is this true and have you tried using rechargeables in it? I don't really see a reason why one cannot. Perhaps it's just a "must use alkaline" gimmick?

Re: Narrowed it down to 3 \"beater\" flashlights

I've read that a few CPF'ers use rechargeable NiMH AA's in their PT Surges... that's what I hope to do when I get mine.

Re: Narrowed it down to 3 \"beater\" flashlights

Of the ones you listed, I'd go for the UK eLED. Rugged, LED-based light, needs no new bulbs. Also, look at the Streamlight JR. Luxeon. $31.95 + $3.85 shipping from www.pocketlights.com. Aluminum, very bright, tax-free shipping via USPS to Canada. I've got one and love it. 80 mins. run time on 2 AA cells. Can also use NiMH for low cost.

Yea I like the UK eLED best of the bunch too,

GET THEM ALL!!!!

kidding.

seriously, i have all 3--and like them all.

need stupid-bright? go with the surge.

for an "around the house" light, you just cant beat the UK4aaLED. not a lot of throw, but LONG runtime, inexpensive and great form factor. it is regulated...for $20!

add an incan lamp assembly + bezel for a total of $9, and you have a light that is very flexible. the incan is a bright puppy with great throw.

the impact xl is nice as well. mine is very bright, and has a great feel. it throws very well.
however, it is unregulated.

im not sure of your need for brightness, but i would personally go for the UKLED and incan head assembly.

Thanks for all the replies.

Where would I get the incandescent head assembly for the UKLED?

Re: Narrowed it down to 3 \"beater\" flashlights

Well I placed my order at Brightguy. I hope that they don't use a method of shipping that gouges on brokerage fees.

Re: Narrowed it down to 3 \"beater\" flashlights

Why is it that I never see the UK Q40 mentioned much around CPF? It seems to me like it's the UK 4AA's "little brother" (with SCUBA card /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif). I don't mean to highjack the thread, but any comments on the Q40 would be appreciated.

Re: Narrowed it down to 3 \"beater\" flashlights

i'd highly recommend the UK 4AA eLED as well. the other lights you mentioned just can't beat the eLED's value and performance /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

greenled: from what i do know, the UK Q40 is simply a UK 4AA without the valve and push-button switch, of which the latter most people find more user-friendly or practical than the Q40's twist bezel switch /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
