I'm looking for a decent (bright, good quality, and acceptable run time), but not overly expensive, AA light for a wedding present for my brother in law. He already has everything under the sun, save a decent flashlight. I'm thinking AA, because he may not bother with ordering the CR123s. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance. I've really enjoyed perusing this forum. It is something different from my usual - thefiringline.com.

How much you looking to spend? You want a single AA? Does size matter? INFO INFO.

I'd like a 2AA light. Looking to spend roughly $50 or so. That is a little flexible. So far I'm leaning toward the Eagle Tac P10A2. But I'm open to looking at others too. My only experience with AA lights is my REALLY OLD Mini Mag (with drop in LED mod). It is great for what I use it for - determining which socks are blue and which are black before my wife wakes up. But I'd like to get my brother in law something a bit more powerful.

I recently picked up a Fenix L2D over at 4Sevens for $41 shipped. I think originally it was close to $60, so it's a good deal. It's my first high dollar light and I'm really impressed, even though it's not the newest technology.

Good Luck

:welcome:
There's a good number of AA lights. The better ones are reviewed by Selfbuilt here.
My favorites and recommendation are Nitecore D10 and Nitecore Defender Infinity. Should you want more bling as a gift, there's the Silver (Nickel) Nitecore Defender Inifinity.

i love my Fenix LD20. 2 AA's

been using it under harsh conditions.....awesome light.

not expensive.

Peak Pacific in Brass (my preference for a classy wedding present especially if you polish it first), Stainless or HAIII. Choose from 4 power levels, several body styles, and interchangeable AAA tubes, not to mention LiIon capability.

Eagletac P100A2. <$40 shipped, lifetime warranty. 2 modes, VERY non-flashaholic friendly. I've given 5 away and it is universally loved by all and impressed everyone. =)

and then: I'd like a 2AA light. Looking to spend roughly $50 or so. That is a little flexible."

D10 is nice light (i carry mine everyday) but it is not a 2AA, that would be the nitecore D20 model if one wants such an user interface. (d10 is 59-70$ depending the led and if you need a pocket clip.)

but it is also likely that most people would be amazed of the light output of just 1AA light.

simple to use: go for eagletac. click on and off.. and higher output available by turning the head. (and i think its bargain at 40$)

harder to use: fenix lights. multi mode light that you change the output by half pressing the button. (also more modes available via head twist) -fenix has about the best runtimes in lights.

interesting to use: Nitecore d20, click to turn on. click to on and then hold the button down it brightens or goes dimmer (choose when to release the button for the righ output, you can pick it almost everywhere between low and high. (double click= lowest possible output. click+press= highest)
but this is also almost 60 or more.

to name another option that havent been mentioned yet:

interesting to use: itp c8 light. click on. loosen the head to begin the dimming or brightening.. it will ramp up or down and when you reach the "right" amount of light you tighten the head and it will stay there.
-to me it is easier to use and handle to novice than the nitecore setup. and the ramping is more steady.. d10/d20 seem to jump too fast between low and medium. and its less than 50$.

i would recommend to think if the person is likely to carry it in his pocket everyday (then 1AA, it would be easier to carry)

if its going to be used as household chore light (walk the dog take the trash look into garage etc. ) then 2 cell AA.

and then think iif its more useful to be a keep it simple-kind.. eagletac.
or more demanding, like itp, fenix or nitecore.

I'll echo the suggestions above for the D10 -- the R2 model in particular. It's my first "quality" light, so I might be a little naive and biased, but I think he would really appreciate it. I think it offers flexibility without being overwhelming or "tech-y." It also has a classy look and feel, and superb build quality.

A Fenix in either 1 or 2 AA's is a hard flashlight to beat -

For a bit higher-end single AA with a nice UI, I would choose the NiteCore Defender Infinity -

IMO, these 3 are the best in the 2xAA category, good balance of price, form and performance.
