Hi im in law enforcement and I need a light thats good for tracking in heavy overgrown brush. It needs to be durable, have presence in the hand and still be compact enough that I wont feel weighed down by it. I would like it to have a strobe feature, dimmable or at least different light modes, I would like it to be able to take double A batteries or triple A or rechargeable. I would also like it to be an Led light. not too pricey because if I do lose it I don't want to feel like I just lost half a pay check, Ive lost many lights. Also I work alot in the dark so this light will need to be an everyday type of light. Lights that I have now are the energizer hard-case (my favorite), a dorcy 220 lumen light (my everyday all circumstance light very bright and i love it), I don't really need something brighter but definitely would like something as bright. And a sure fire 6p, (the dust gatherer) simply because the duration of use for the light and the nature of my job would make the battery cost ridiculous.

I would suggest possibly using the 6P. You can get an LED module to replace the standard incandescent one and invest in a good charger and 17670 Li-Ion battery for it, I would get two batteries so you always have one backup ready. A decent charger will run $18-$50 depending on what you pick. The 17670 batteries (get the ones with protection circuit) are around $11 each and you can choose from a wide variety of LED modules starting around $18 and up. Read up some in the battery section on the hazards and care of these cells and see if it's something you may want to do.

Hello
Check Klarus flashlights. They all have strobe and good tactical user interface.

Klarus XT2A uses 2xAA Alkaline or rechargeable and is ~60$.

I know many LEOs who use the Klarus lines of flashlights. Check out the Klarus XT11. Fits on the duty belt very well, and as you mentioned, it isn't very heavy at all. The output is rated at 600 lumens and has three output levels, plus a strobe mode. The best part about it is the light won't leave your wallet empty. You could also check out the Surefire fury lights, but they are a little more expensive.
EDIT: Err, just realized you prefer a AA or AAA flashlight. As flashlion already mentioned, the XT2A uses AA batteries, although I greatly recommend you look into lights that use the CR123's or 18650s. As long as you buy them in bulk, they aren't too expensive.

+1 on the 6P. Time to dust off the 6P and get a $45 Nailbender 4300K XML with the AW 17670 protected batteries. Welcome to CPF and for sure read dangers of using lithium ion batteries. If you really want to budget get an 18650 capable Solarforce L2T host from eBay for 20 bucks and go for the higher capacity ($20) 18650.

First, like everyone else said, update the 6P with a LED drop-in and a Li-ion rechargeable battery. Secondly, for the other light you might want, do you need lots of throw? Also, what's your max size (more throw usually = larger reflector)? Price?

The Fenix E40 is a good thrower with 4 AA batteries and a lower price.

:welcome:

I'm getting pretty interested in modding out the surefire light, I didn't know I had options. I found the rechargeable battery on Oveready, now how do I find the led drop ins?

Look for Nailbenders' (Dave) P60 modules in the Customs & Modified B/S/T forum. Dave makes excellent drop-ins for a nice price with many choices and options. You can PM him for a recommendation, he is very helpful.

Just make sure the drop-ins's voltage is compatible to the batteries you will be using. Malkoff also makes nice drop-ins and Overready has drop-ins as well.
