NEED HELP! Smallest light for self defense???

What is the smallest light that's good enough for self defense? My mother owns a restaurant and she has to walk behind it at night to get to her car.So she needs something small enough so I know she'll carry it,but bright enough to at least give her a second to get out of trouble. Thanks for any help.

E2d would fit the purpose.. shine it to the stranger's eyes and bash him/her up with it, and run..
Small enough to carry in a purse or pocket and good amount of light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

If your Police will do it, have her call them when she is ready to leave. The patrol car pulls up she walks to the car they both drive off, safe.
Other wise I'd recomend pepper spray and a light. TigerLight might be too large.
Or park in a more visable location.

Re: NEED HELP! Smallest light for self defense???

E2 series sounds about right. Would it also help to upgrade the permanent lighting in the parking lot? Also clear the area of anything that could be a hiding place.

Not sure that E1E you're looking for is gonna be bright enough for that, coach, unless you put a PR-T head with BB500 on it maybe.

E2e would be great. It is small and compact and fits in the handbag easily. Just before she walk out of the restaurant she can have the light on standby in her hand.

Re: NEED HELP! Smallest light for self defense???

how about E1e with PRT BB667 lux 3??

Re: NEED HELP! Smallest light for self defense???

Thanks everyone for the advice. Also, isn't Streamlight's tl-2 actually ALOT brighter than the S.F. e2e?

Re: NEED HELP! Smallest light for self defense???

TL-2 can throw better whereas the E2e is a little more compact and has a smoother beam. You won't go wrong whichever you choose.

Re: NEED HELP! Smallest light for self defense???

I'd recommend G2 with the P61. Not a lot bigger than the E2, lots more light and less than 1/2 the price. What my wife carries when she can't be otherwise armed.

As an alternative, you might consider any small tactical light attached to a large caliber handgun!

Re: NEED HELP! Smallest light for self defense???

Coach- I just re-read the posts and see that your mother owns the restaurant. Any reason she can't light up the parking area? That's probably not the least expensive alternative, but it would sure help. Bad Guys and bright lights don't mix.

Re: NEED HELP! Smallest light for self defense???

WitsEnd - are there REALLY Police forces that can escort a regular worker to her car? It can't be done in the UK on a nightly basis & if the US only has one Trooper patrolling the WHOLE 100 miles of the Oregon Coastline & THAT's on a part-time basis apparantley..........

I suggested this for a friends Mother recently as he wanted something bright for her to carry when she hears stuff in her garden - I suggetsted a fixed light running of the mains with a movement sensor!

Re: NEED HELP! Smallest light for self defense???

...still thinking about the Police escort point, over here your talking £400 GBP per man per day for an escort!

Re: NEED HELP! Smallest light for self defense???

It's downtown Charleston in a shopping strip. It's lit good enough, but downtown late night,is DOWNTOWN LATE NIGHT,if ya know what I mean!Nothing she can do about lighting.

Re: NEED HELP! Smallest light for self defense???

I've read everyone's suggestions and if size is the second consideration after brightness, go with the E2 series.

But I would ask you, which of your lights have you shown her, which one does she like and not like and why?

Make your decision on that info and guide her based on the fact this light may be used in a tactical situation.

I second this suggestion. If the circumstances allow, put in a metal halide lamp with a Lexan window in the enclosure. That way you'll get the benefit of really crisp white light as well as something that can't be easily shattered or shot out. Maybe two or three fixtures if it's a long alley.
