Anyone have the official WA specs on the WA 1165, and what is the safe max over volt on this bulb (just shy of going POOF)?
Edit: Can I run 6 AA NIMH cells without problems?

I did some digging and found the following specs for the 1165...

Part Number: 01165-U

Do you happen to know the formula (or where I can find it) for over volting and life of the bulb?

Ray, I uploaded my Excel Hotrater a while ago for anyone to use. Get it here: https://www.box.com/shared/0ul04spadi

To add a bulb which I don't have listed, first insert about 10 rows to get some open space. Then copy the 5-6 rows of an existing bulb into the open space. Next, manually insert your bulb and data as I did below in the screenshot image. Specifically you will put your bulb data that you listed above in your comparable rows that match my example -- cells A-25, F-24, G-24, I-24, and L-24 Now the calculations become automated. However, one more issue is important--the resistance of your light setup. That value gets put into cell C-1 (seen at top in pink in my image). You can get some typical resistance estimates looking at the table at the very bottom of the lamps listings.

Now you want to put your actual voltage in the "Direct Drive" yellow box D-25 in this example. You will then see what your Lumens, current, Hours, etc. come out as. You have to play with the D-25 cell voltage to get some compromise between Lumens and Bulb Life. With WA bulbs, this spreadsheet is pretty accurate. If 6 x NiMH cells were hot off the charger, and you had almost no resistance (I set C1 to 50 mOhm) in the light's setup, theoretically you could deliver 8.4V and with a life showing of 1.6 hrs, that is very likely to be a flash. ...but you have to consider the resistance "buffer" in your setup.

The closest bulb that I tested was the WA 1111 bulb also a 6V, but with 100hrs life at default. You can see how it flashed at 8.3V despite when you put in the Hotrater voltage of 8.4V, the spreadsheet predicted life was 2.4 Hrs. The bottom line is if you put a voltage where the spreadsheet calculates a life under 9-10 hrs, you are not going to have the bulb last very long.


The other thing to realize is that when you use NiMH cells, their voltage drops under the load of the light and resistance, so they are not going to be delivering 8.4V (6 x 1.4V) on a practical basis. Probably more like 7.8V which calculates the life to around 10 hours.

Do you mean bulbs?
Litho had a GB way back when and I had him pick me up a half dozen, I liked the filament specks, IIRC 1X1mm.

Sorry, I did mean "bulb" typo. Where did you find those specs on the bulb? From Litho's thread? If you download that Excel Hotrater, you can see that I had actual links for each of the WA bulbs, going directly to their website listing of their specs. None of those links work anymore, and it is not as easy to look up any of their bulb specs. I'm sure they still carry some of them for old product support.
