Need some tech advise for a el cheapo torch

Hi Torchies

I bought a $28 AUD "

1600 Lm CREE XML T6 LED Zoomable Flashlight Torch + 18650 Battery + Charger"off Ebay and it failed on every level (yes I know better now and I am buying a better quality unit that will serve me better) firstly it was lucky to be 150 lumens (yes i read the sticky thread now) and the 18650 batteries were DOA on arrival ( yes I read the sticky threads), on the first night it failed me and burnt out.
On the bright (lol) side the Chinese seller refunded me 100% of the money and let me keep the unit, so heres my question can I fix it or is it not worth it.

As you can see its a 2x 18650 unit (I have 2 new Panasonic 3100 mAh to replace the old ones) can I just buy a new drop in or is the unit fundamentally crap and just throw it away? (I have reasonable level tech skills soldering etc etc)

Good lord, 2x18650 for 1 LED? That looks like an XP-C anyway...

See what it does if you jam two or three AAs in there, with a paper tube to hold them centered. You might have to run a jumper from the back of the cell sticking out the back to the flashlight tube.

Looks to me like the dome lifted up.

Yep the dome melted and cracked, I thought it may have been a faulty unit. There is still voltage getting up there though.
