I have a negative earthing issue where the sparky (interstate and some time ago) has wired in my illuminated switch to a negative earth switch
the illum pole (7 on the contura) only lights up if directly connected to power and stays on irrespective of whether switch is on or off
the contura works as expected when tested off loom. ie pos switching where 2/3 are connected to high beam trigger and spotlight feed and where pole 7 is earthed

Set up as follows

I have a 5 pole Bosch 30 amp relay and an illuminated carling contura II single throw switch with 3 poles, switched poles 2 and 3 and pole 7 which nominally is the earth

the spotlights are wired into the high beam switch (legal req in australia)
poles 2 and 3 on the carling appear to be an earth connection as the switch will only illuminate (and stays on whether switch on/off) if a positive feed is applied to pole 7

pole 30 on the bosch goes to + battery
poles 85 and 86 are switched through to pole 3 on the carling. 86 (can't confirm) would appear to connected to High Beam main headlights as req'd under road rules)
pole 3 on the carling goes to the vehicle body
poles 87 x 2 are connected to the spotlights

does pole 7 on the carling need to be connected to High Beam to be activated or does it get added onto poles 87 on the relay?

and before anyone suggests that it should go back to the sparky he's 1500km away and I have no intention of going back to him.
