Nope, I got 'em both. With the porcupine you just can't tell from the serial number. It's strange that it seems the s/n of the porcupine starts from 1400. I mean I 've never seen a smaller number. Even the jap guys got these large numbers. Odd!
 
surefarc: i have no idea then....maybe your definition of how exposed the O-ring must be till its considered unacceptable might be different from those who reported the problem? in any case if water doesn't leak in then its ok IMO /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
SureFire Serial Numbers often do not indicate age of flashlight since the part that was etched is likely to have been made at a different time from when it was assembled.

I talked to my friend yesterday about the tailcap, but sadly I will not be able to measure it because he no longer has that A2. The incandescent bulb wasn't working and the Surefire rep was kind enough to replace his A2 with a brand new one. I wonder if there might be some issues with gas leaking from the incandescent bulbs because mine had that problem before it was replaced.

Al: you're probably right...its probably not specific to surefire too. an arc lsh-p i got which was supposedly one of the first few runs has a serial number of 848, and the latest one i've got which was dated march 2003, has a serial number of 16 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
 
Surefarc: I am sorry I didn't get a chance to measure the tailcaps exactly today, but it appears there is about a 32nd of difference between them. I think the threads are set deeper in the long tailcap too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
