New EagleTac 14500 - Bottom Terminal Crooked

I'm very new to Lithium Ion batteries... I've done all the required reading, I have all the equipment, and I think I'm ready to be safe. So I picked up an EagleTac 14500 to use in my Quark QTA.

When I put the battery on my desk and stand it on the negative end, it stands a little crooked, maybe by a few degrees. There's no visible damage to the battery or label.

Is this something I need to be concerned about?

Not knowing any more info on those cells I'm required to aks: is there protection involved? It's more than likely what's causing your concern. If so, then the pcb is probably the cause and no need to panic, it's just not sitting perfectly flat on the end of the cell.

Yes, it's a protected cell. I'm charging it now and paying close attention to it. Like I said, it doesn't look like the cell is damaged in any way, so I'm comfortable with it, although next time I buy one I will definitely be looking out for that. Is this something that happens with these cells?

I've since purchased a few EagleTac 3100mAh 18650s, and a couple of them have crooked protection circuits. Doesn't appear to cause any harm, but it still annoys me a bit. Does anyone else have this issue with EagleTacs? IS this maybe just a bad batch they've had?

Are AW's batteries generally okay in this regard?

I've had two ET 3100s for 19 months and they're fine.

You can always pick up some naked Sanyo 840mAh cells from Orbtronics, et. al. and come over to the dark side.

Just got a Eagletac 14500 Li-ion battery from Flashaholics to use in an Eagletac D25A clicky. Figured since it was from the same manufacturer there would be no problem. However it wouldnt operate in turbo mode (head tightened down). After looking at it more closely I find the battery is slightly longer than a standard AA battery, and has a crooked base plate, like the OP.

Are 14500s normally slightly longer than AAs, or is it just this one is badly manufactured?

I have the d25a and eagletac 14500s never had length probs but some are thicker being a tight fit

I have AW and Nitecore 14500s and they are both slightly taller - maybe 1mm - than my eneloops. Unless the D25A is not supposed to be used with 14500s, the fact that a an Eagletac 14500 doesn't work in an EagleTac D25A is very disappointing though!
