I ordered an OLIGHT T15, single AA light for $30.

What are anyone's opinions of the quality of this light if you know. I've only bought a few lights before, all Fenix. The main reason I wanted this one is the momentary on feature. That feature is available on other light I know but this was an impuls buy. Also, it has a little higher lumens than the ones I have had (all AA or AAA lights). My most used is the Fenix LD01. AAA light with pocket clip powerful enough to walk my dog is amazing to me. I didn't get one but now I see a difuser on the OLIGHT site. It looks interesting for different situations. Any input on difusers or color lenses?

Thanks,
Jack

I haven't used color caps, but do like diffusers occassionaly. I would say definitely a bonus to have.

Gotta control those impulses

'cause you coulda had this sweet TC15 with nice gift box and diffuser from Shiningbeam. I don't think that has momentary, though.

But you may have the sickness - What can we do?

That silver light is beautiful. I don't like the switches where you push gently to switch something. I sold a Fenix LD10 because I kept turning the thing off when switching brightnesses. And I do want the momentary. Thanks for the tip though and you have added another shopping site to get my money. :) I don't think I have the sickness (denial? :)). I went through the knife thing. Bought and sold a lot of EDC knives to now have 7 that I really love. I don't collect, just use. So, what you can do is provide advice that I need. If I ever do jump up the quality and/or features (and money) for a light I plan on doing more research and asking more questions before buying. Maybe I wouldn't have spent as much on knives if I had asked more questions before buying. Never bought a knife I didn't like but ended up with a bunch I ended up not using. So I sold them and bought others. :D I can see the same thing happening with EDC flashlights. Funny, since up until about a year ago I never carried a light nor did I know I absolutely needed to carry one. :) Of course I have an EDC small knife attached to my Fenix LD01. :D

I got my OLIGHT T15 today (1xAA). It has 3 brightnesses and strobe. I can tell a difference in med. and high IF I REALLY PAY ATTENTION. Other than that it looks like med and high is the same brightness. I thought it was broken at first. I know there is a difference in lumens and OTF light but don't really understand it clearly. Med is supposed to be 105 and high is 115. That's a pretty close window I think so it's probably working fine. Does that sound right? I'm using an Eneloop rechargable battery. Brand new alkaline battery works just the same.

I was wonderind if there would be any difference in using 3V - 4.2 V rechargable battery (Li-Ion14500). I don't have any or a charger but wondered if the difference would be noticable. The light is compatable with these batteries.

Congratz....and yeah the small difference between low and high sounds about right for the battery type you are using. I am pretty sure that if you used a Li-Ion in it you would get a more noticeable amount of light out the front. I have an iTP SA1 which is made by Olight and there is quite a difference between using NiMH and Li-Ion. I also had an Olight I15...same thing between batteries in it.

I have the T10, what I did was buy the T15 body tube for it. Now it is like have two lights one that runs on AA/14500, and one on 16340. I got the tube for like $7. Not to bad. I also got the green filter.

If I got a battery tube for my T15 that will hold CR123A batteries will that work? Will I get better performance? T10 is supposed to have 210 lumens on high? This sounds like putting a more powerful battery in the T15 than it is designed for. Bad? Using a AA in a T10 sounds like putting a lower power battery in the light which is not so powerful that it would damage the T10 circuitry. Or is the circuitry the same? If I could get a $7 batt. tube and CR123 batteries and it double the output that would be good. Would the performance be SIGNIFICANT?

This sounds like an option instead of going to Li-Ion batteries since you need a charger with them. No disposable Li-Ion batteries I understand.

This is what a few different websites that sold the tube had in the description.

This Olight T10 battery tube accessory exists primarily to allow puchasers of the T15 to have the option to use CR123A or RCR123A batteries in addition to AA's.

Well, that's pretty clear. What sites do you get the tube? And, is the performance improvement worth it? If it only brightens up the light a little I wouldn't want one. But for less than $10 (plus batteries) and a light that is about (or almost) twice as bright I would be interested.

Thanks,
Jack

I have to go to work, but when I get home tonight I will run it with all the batteries and get back to you on performance. I will also P.M. you on where I got mine at.

Keep in mind that the human eye will perceive increases in brightness equivalent to the square root of the lumen increase. So doubling from 100 > 200 = 2.0, then 2.0^0.5 = 1.41 or 41% increase. 4 x the lumens will look twice as bright.

I don't understand your math and since I failed algebra 3 times I should be an expert. :) 100 to 200 lumen is an increase of 100. Sq rt = 10 I think.

However, if 4 x lumens = twice as bright I can get some idea of what to expect.

That is very useful knowledge. My OLIGHT T15 is med (105) and br (115). Why even have seperated the two? I have to do two twists to get past the bright setting to the strobe then back to low. Since bright is essentially the same as med. it seems like a waste to have it. Why not just have a low, bright and strobe (which is what you really have anyway). They should have made med. around 75 lumens. I bet there was some sort of electronic technical reason they did it the way they did. Oh well. I suppost the sun will still come up tomorrow morning. If not, at least I have a flashlight. :)

Another way to look at it is 1.41 (a 41% increase in perceived brightness) squared... or 1.41 x 1.41 = 2.0 or twice the lumens (100 > 200). If you want twice the perceived brightness then 2.0 x 2.0 = 4.0 or four times the lumens (100 > 400).

I agree on the Olight, 100 > 115 is a completely wasted mode slot... IMHO even a 75 > 115 increase is a wasted mode slot. A 53% lumen increase ~ 24% increase in perceived that borders on bare perceptible as well - sorry for the algebra, but (115/75)^0.5 OR square root of 115/75 = 1.24.

I personally prefer my mode spacing to be in the 4x to 10x range with something nearer 4x between the higher modes and something nearer 10x between the lower modes. In the case of your Olight, I'd go 3.5 > 25 > 115.

I like the Quarks spacing the best, mine goes 0.3>3>24>115>280, with the last step being the hardest to discern.

Did you ever get a chance to check where you got your battery tube to use CR123 batteries with the T15? The site I got the light from only has one to allow AA batteries to be used in the T10. I can get the T10 tube from olight but wanted to get one and batteries on the same order. I think OLIGHT will be more expensive than the resellers.

What is the difference in CR123 and CR123A batteries? Also, is there a better brand to get? I have seen them for $1 up to about $2. I have seen a big difference in rechargable AA batteries and figure all batteries have different qualities.

Thanks,
Jack

Sorry about the delay I misplaced the tube. I tried it out on an eneloop and it was hard to tell between the two high modes. When I used an EagleTac 16340, you could see a difference in the two levels. Not sure how the difference would be with a CR123 though. I like the size difference with the 16340, about 3 and half inches long.

I got the T10 tube today and batteries. The light is brighter and there is a definate difference between med. and high. I do like that it makes the light a little shorter also. Smaller is always better. This is good cuz I can see a difference between AA and Cr123A battery performance in the same light. I'm hoping and assuming they will last longer. We'll see. I got a Duracell Ultra battery for $1.95 and a battery labled Titanium Innovations for $1. I'll see how they do. I don't want to get a charger so I want to see how much difference there is in these batteries.
