Hello!
This is my first post here and I have a question:
I currently own several models of Pelican lites. Everything from MityLites to the big King pelicans. I am currently working in Central America so Lithium lites are really out of the question because of care/feeding issues.
I am considering some replacement/supplement lights. How would you compare:
1)Pelican Super Sabre light VS. UK UL6??
2)Pelican MityLite plus to ??
3)Are the rechargable Streamlights better?

Sorry for all the questions but given my location I really cannot "shop around"!
Thanks,
Jason

Jason:

How do you use your lights. I have a Super Sabre light and a Super Mitylite, and I find each of their hot spots narrower than I would normally want to use. Maybe that doesn't bother you.

On the other hand, they both use easily findable alkalines, they each have a decent throw distance, and they each are compact for their battery content.

You don't want to use lithiums, but are you willing to use rechargeable NiMH's or NiCads?

Welcome Jason!

It might be easier for us to help you if you told us your requirements/preferences in terms of runtime, brightness, throw (how far beam projects), width of beam (wide, narrow, medium), size and weight, waterproof, type and cost of battery availibility, availibility of electricity (for charging)etc.

If that seems too daunting a list just tell us what you need in general terms.

Jason, Read the post(best shirt pocket light)in this section. The board help me decide that a mity light was best for my need.I spent over 100.00 buying different led lights and went back to useing a mity light with a super mity light bulb.

There ya go lumitoid. That is what the board is best at. Helping other people. I am sure that internet access in central america is not a "dime a dozen" Jason, but we look forward on how we might be able to help you when you can respond with more info.

Thanks for the quick replies!
I am a missionary and work in very poor squatter communities. I have easy access to electricity or vehicle charging. I can get alkalines or NiMH and have some NiMHs by Energizer. I love my pelicans but they do have a narrow beam. I need something equally as powerful but with more "spread" . . . don't know the terms.
I have a friend who has a Streamlight Stinger that he recharges in his truck but I am not sure if it is worth the $$. I am currently considering a PT Surge for vest pocket carry and a UK UL6 for the car. I know that I cannot afford the care and feeding of a Surefire . . . are the Streamlights more cost effective once purchased??
Sorry for so many questions at once!

Jason:

The rechargeable Streamlights are rugged, weather resistant, and offer a nice degree of beam focus capability.

The Surge is very nice with alkalines or rechargeable alkalines. You might want to go smaller and lighter for vest pocket carry with a 4AA cell PT40 with a wide angle beam, NiMH's, and a 3-C or D cell bulb.

If you want more light than the Surge for your car light, I would urge you to spend the additional money for an UltraStinger rather than a Stinger. I don't have one yet, but that's only because I'm playing with high output mods to various heavier flashlights that don't sound practical for your application.
