So i just received my surefire lights (e2e and c2) directly from surefire. i got it in the presidential gift set, because it included extra batteries and lamp assemblies. well i opened it up and was kinda dissappointed. the lights have slight nics at the edges and seems like the HA coating is chipped at certain points. the lights work fine, but is this typical of surefires? the only other light i have is an A2 that i got from oldgrandpajack, and it was flawless. should i even bother to ask surefire about it? thanks

Sounds like a typical SureFire product. I have seen several lights (6P, E2e, E1e, M2) that were new in the package but were nicked or scuffed upon open.

I own two (E1e and E2e) that had several nicks on each bezel. I received a replacement bezel (my original E2e bezel had sand or somesuch trapped inside, causing a bad artifact problem) for the E series, and it also had nicks.

But... the lights work fine. I think SureFire cares more about that than the look of the lights. Remember, they are tools.

You can call SureFire to complain, but I wouldn't expect them to replace the lights for cosmetic reasons.

i had ordered them originally 10/27...but surefire said it was back ordered. then when i get them, i think they are the older models. my e2e has a click on/off cap instead of the twist constant on. well they are functional, i guess thats as good as it gets...thanks

But still, the fact is that it came with some nicks on the finish, and you paid for a brand new product, not 2nd hand. I would say call SF up anyway to complain about it, and I guess they would be willing to replace it. If it was meant as a gift to someone, what would that person think, that you're giving out gifts that had been used already?

I have not had any problem with items comming from SF, strange, I have many of their light and all look cosmetically good. FYI, I prefer the clickie tail cap, an opinion in the minority around here, but works better for me.

I'd be pretty upset if I spent that much money on a new light (or lights) and there was even the smallest bit of damage. It wouldn't hurt to call Surefire, at least to express concern about their quality control.

And if it's true that all new Surefire's are coming with clickies, I may have to buy myself an E2E for Christmas /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have never had a SureFire product nicked or scuffed. Strange, and I would call them and inquire at least.

thanks for the advice, I emailed surefire to see what they had to say, i'll let u know what i get back

You did the right thing by calling surefire about the nicks in your lights. The light set you bought was not cheap and i too would expect an almost flawless light(s). You paid top dollar and you should get top dollar product. Its not like you bought a SFG2...

SF does not miss an opportunity to make a profit off the consumer and you should not miss your opportunity to have a product you are happy with.

I agree with junior. If a company is going to offer a product, it should be the best it can be. If they can't do hard anodizing properly, then they shouldn't offer lights with that coating as a feature. Just my 2 cents!

Variations in the tone of the natural color hard anodizing of the various parts of a given Surefire flashlight are what I would understand as "cosmetic" issues.

Chips in the anodizing where the bare aluminum is showing through are "damage" as another poster referred to them.

If I bought a Maglite at Walmart and discovered a chip in the finish where the bare aluminum showed through, I wouldn't hesitate in taking it back and getting it exchanged.

Much more so with a Surefire.

I suppose as others have alluded to it depends on a number of circumstances as to whether you complain to Surefire about this.
If you feel that the product is less than perfect then you will be quite within your rights to feel quite aggrevied. However, the question I would ask myself would be is, are these lights going to be 'used' or are they for decoration to go on a shelf? If they are decoration and maybe will become part of a collection or might be for resale to someone else then you should compalin as the finish will be less than 100% and possibly effect resale values.

If on the other hand the light will be used regualrly why bother to complain if the light is only slightly less than perfect. I'm sure after a few days of normal use that it will quickly show some signs of wear and you wont care about the existing marks?

Your purchase was (unless I read your post wrong) as a boxed gift set? In this case and if I were giving it to someone else then I most definitely would complain because the recipient will almost certainly feel disappointed by a gift with defects?

Regards
Doug

I just got it as a gift set because it included the two lamps and extra batteries, im not giving it to anyone. surefire replied that I should call and request and RMA for warranty repair. Im not sure this is a warranty repair? they will prob get extensive use (esp the e2e), but after paying all this cash, i should be the one to scratch it up, not them:). im kinda hesitant to send them in since it took this long to just get them, and i want to make sure i keep the clicky cap on the e2e...i dont like the twist switch. thanks

Don't let them off the hook. The lights should have been in mint "new" condition, or sold at a cheaper price just like when you're buying a used light over in BST. Do us all a favor and demand satisfaction. You paid for it.

Aight guys, thanx for the advice...i think i'll call them on monday and try my luck..i'll let you know how it turns out
