New toys - need review

Help Support Candle Power:

Hello Peter,

You bring up some important points on the Zinc Air batteries. I also understand that they need exposure to air to continue to work.

I have thought about using some of them in my lights, but thought that the enclosed battery tube would not allow enough air to keep them functioning.

The weight to energy rating is what keeps me thinking that I need to spend some time testing these cells.

Tom

PeLu,
That's very interesting about the air hole. I always wondered what that little tab on my hearing aid batteries had to do with anything /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif. Now I know.

LED Torch (5 watt) - blows the socks off of a SL TL-3 LED and compares favorably with SF L4, but spot vs. flood so hard to compare. Slightly larger than a SF TL-3 led, but at that size range who cares - it's not an EDC.

Do you think this " "Luxeon 5-Watt LED Handtorch" " you linked above is the same as the 5W AXL-053L offered by Golden Gadgets? Their specs and claims seem similar (but not so much the price).

JimH, I asked about the 5W light from Lifestyle Fascination in this post. We didn't establish very much on that thread, but there is more information on the light there.

Thanks for pointing out the lowered price on Lifestyle Fascination's site. I usually buy their lights from Flashlight Site, where they're usually about 10% less, but they haven't lowered the price on that one yet. Maybe I'll get one. $60 for any 5W is great, and I think Nuwai actually makes very good lights.

Kitchener,

Yup. Exact same light. I absolutely frigging love mine. Not as much total light output as my L4, but more throw and longer burn time. For $60, it's pretty hard to beat. It is currently my most used light for a non EDC.

I don't know what real burn time is, but advertised (on the box) burn time is 3 hours.

In the 2 cell category, it's pretty much a toss-up between the Pelican M6 LED and the Streamlight TL-2 LED as to which one of them has a better beam.
The Streamlight measures a bit brighter, but it has a narrower beam. That's probably what, in great part, accounts for the disparity.
The LEDXTREME PREDATOR is also in the running here, but since I do not have the sample anymore, I cannot compare it with other LED flashlights.

Another comparable light, although I do not own one (yet) is the Vortex TC2. The TC1 model, which I do own, is excellent. One thing also to consider is that the Pelican is made in the USA.
