Hey,

Some time ago I bought a luxeon V emitter and downboy driver but never got round to using them, plan was to put it in a lumicycle can for a lower power backup light to the HID's I use offroad . . . I have some time on my hands so have made a small heatsink plug for the lumi can and mounted the luxeon within, question on the driver, how efficient is the downboy when running a single emitter at 700mA from a nimh pack 12-13.2V and how can I keep it cool enough within the enclosed space . . . will it survive being potted then glued onto the back of the heatsink with some conductive epoxy ?

I'm sure there are better led's available now but this suffices for the time being, until the HID's need replacing anyway.

TIA

when running a single emitter at 700mA from
the Lux V is a quad emitter in a 2 parallel * 2 series setup!

a direct replacement were an MC-E set the same.

Thanks, I'm sure a V2 will emerge at some point now that the pattern for the heatsink that fits in the can is understood . . . perhaps I should do more research into some more modern driver boards . . .

Ok, in the end I simply bonded the downboy to the rear of the heatsink with arctic silver epoxy, works fine, here are some pics of the lumicycle can install during the build . . . likely I'll put a higher powered conversion into another can when some parts arrive from cutter . . .

Case temp sits around 50C in a warm house and around 30C outside (Scotland) when in motion . . .
