Help /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif! I need your help. I have known that I have carried the flashlight gene for many years. 20 years ago I went into a gun store for the first time in search of a quality flashlight that I could be proud of. I bought a B-light for more money than I could afford. I still use it. Then a few months ago, my flashlight gene was re-activated. Since then I have purchased a:

1) Forever flashlight by Excalibur (interesting, but a joke as a real light.)
2) Surefire, E2E (great light! but does not have the run time I would like.) I have ordered a KL1, but God knows when it will come.
3) lightwave 2000 (not bad but not bright enough)
4) photon III (I like it alot for a EDC but I still crave more, pow.)
5) an Expediton: new 6 LED (a good workhorse but not very sexy)
6) a Mag 3D (a mag is a mag...)

Now, I am still unfulfilled.

So I began to search the web for the right "fix" for my craving and found the LED Museum and CPF. I'm on the right track... Also I have researched the 1 and 5 Watt Luxeon. perhaps the answer to my dreams. But what to get. Then I found Wayne @ elektrolumens...Yes! He says that he is going to make a 5-Watt, 6-AA (in a 2-D form factor).

My question IS....will this satisfy my Flashight gene? Is there anything else that I should consider. I can't afford to keep buying flashlights in search of flashlight nirvana and stay married.

What do you think! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

No one here can help you to stop buying flashlights. We have no idea how to stop.

For that you need to find one of those people who has successfully escaped from here. There are rumors that such people exist but who really knows?/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

All we can help you with is buying more and more lights.

Sorry, Pat /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

Welcome aboard,

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

There are several "modders" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif on this site that can help you resolve the first part of the dilemma, however the staying married part.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My understanding is that the Romans had a sign on the contestants entrance to the Coliseum, something on the order of "Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

well, the first thing that needs to be added, is the arc aaa!

no questions, just buy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twak.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

while your there, you can pick up an ls if you like... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

ok, the arc aaa filled your keychain size edc catagory. (i know you have a photon, but the aaa is better in just about every way /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

you now need a rechargable.
if you are concerned with fast charging (2.5 hour), then the streamlight ultrastinger with fast ac/dc is great.

if you don't care much about charge time and want a more durable and powerful light, then get a tigerlight (10 hour charge time)

of course, neither will take the 2.5 or 10 hours, that is the figure for totally crapped out batts, yours won't see that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

and as for the mods, there are many people on this site who build excellent lights. (i myself sell 1w luxeon focusable mag 3d mods /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

after that, you will want to check out the high powerd spotlights, such as the maxabeam /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Where are your priorities?!? Get that divorce now--flashlights and spouses don't seem to mix very well sometimes... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif (sorry, I couldn't resist)

Must-have "premium" lights: SureFire M6 and McCulloch x990 HID. They are not LED lights, but I don't think you would be disappointed in them. Then there are all the fabulous mods offered by CPF members...

Jeez... I rushed right over when I saw the subject line. But you're already beyond help. Give up now, and be happier for it.

May the force be with you. Welcome to the board. You're safe here. Just lock your wife out of the computer room. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

I second the ultrastinger and the Arc AAA and you may as well throw in a UV arc AAA. (After all there all toys)
As far as the wife goes I told mine I cant see in the dark.
Worked for me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Wouldn't it be quite nice, and quite utopic, for someone to sell something that has all these qualities:

1) to shine as bright and throw its beam as long as the maxabeam with a short-arc bulb in a good reflector...
2) to have the option of turning on 4 5W- white LSs with optics...
3) to have the option of turning on 20 small nichia LEDs to over 1000 hours of runtime...
4) to have the option of difussing the light, be it from the short-arc bulb or the LSs or the nichias...
5) to have a dimmer option on all of the light sources...
6) to have it all in the size of a Garrity Ozark 3D...
7) to have the option of running it off of rechargeables...
8) to be HA-III with sapphire/pyrex lense and be diveable to 300 feet...
9) to cost less than an arm and a leg or a new home loan...
10) all bulb lives last more than 500 hours for the least of them, and battery life last more than 10 hours for the biggest drainer...

This would be a flashaholic's wet dream...

But in the meantime, you'll have to make do with these guys:
1) TigerLight (rechargeable region)
2) Eternalight (hyper long runtime region)
3) Arc AAA LE (keychain region)
4) E2e/KL1 (LS LED region)
5) BB400/BB500/MM (alternative LS LED region)
6) E2e (small incandescent region)
7) PT Surge (small common battery region)
8) M6 Millenium (large incandescent)
9) Maxabeam or MegaRay (the GODs of all flashlights)

Your flashlight gene will never be satisfied, so long as someone's willing to push the boundaries of flashlight technology. You will, however, find most of what you'll need and want here at CPF concerning anything flashlights...

Please look at our products, the TRILIGHT is a very nice adapter/flashlight using the 3D case

A side note - we are updating our webpage to use Miva-Merchant, a MUCH nicer webstore; please stay tuned
