I am trying to replace 4 battery cells in my respirator for knife grinding.

You do not say what size the batteries are, but I am guessing they are D size. If not, other sizes are available from this and other vendors.

The size is a taller than a D cell but about the same diameter.

That link looks like it can be used in the application though, smaller is always better if the AH is there.

Sounds like an F sized cell.

The F sized cell seems to be the one that I have. but I guess the D cell with 8000 mAH will be my choice.

Getting another 3M battery pack is out of the question financially, rebuilding myself is the only way, much less expensive by a long shot.

Since your rebuiding a pack you may want to get the D's with tabs.

if they are F size cells, replace them with F size cells:

measure the length, they should be about 90mm (~3.5 inch) long if they are Fs.

The question now is about recharging.

The current cells are 7000 mAH and get a 16 Hr recharge.

The new cells are 10,000 mAH, will the existing charger be up to the job if a little more time is available for charging?

I'm guessing that it's just a dummy style trickle charger.. so just leave it plugged in for about 20-24 hour to ensure a full charge and it should be fine...

Also keep in mind that the new cells are probably not 10,000mAH, I would venture to guess that they are overstated more than the SAFT brand cells for capacity, they might be a little better than the SAFT, but probably not by 30%.

Thanks, use is intermitent so extra charge time is not a problem.

This unit comes with a step down transformer which delivers AC to the battery pack, the rectifier etc is built into the battery pack.
