I haven't used Alkalines in a year, not once.

My favorite choice is Maha Powerex although I use the Eneloop in many devices.

I noticed that the Malkoff mod runs somewhat better on NiMH - both brighter and longer. Elektrolumens also runs much better on NiMH.

Having said that, I keep lots of Alkalines in all sizes just in case.

your observations hold true in almost all circumstances with flashlight use. The only time an alkaline will match or potentially beat a NIMH in runtime is on a very low output light that has a power source who's voltage has to be bucked to the Vf of the LED. A D size alkaline could theoretically deliver as much as like 15AH or more into a very slow drain, which could equate to pretty good runtimes on say, a 2 lumen emergency light.

I do the same as you, keep a stash of fresh alkalines, and a few lithium primaries on hand for emergency backup, and cycle NIMH and li-ion in everything that I use routinely.
