Hi everyone. Being outdoors with my Nitecore D10 R2 yesterday amazed me, but since I was in tactical training, for most of the time I couldn't use the flashlight so that I wouldn't loose my night vision. My Fenix lights have red filters specially made for them, but they're too large for the D10.

Does anyone know a red filter that fits the D10? The head diameter is 20.4mm aproximately. If it doesn't exist, has anyone improvised one? Maybe I'm willing to take the red lens from a Fenix filter and adapt in a cap so that it fits.

Thank you in advance.

Try the bottle cap diffuser and some red rit dye. you might have to try more than once to get the right color you need.

Someone on here posted about how to make a diffuser from a water bottle cap. Certain brands have a little inner ring inside that fits the d10 perfectly. I think the water I used came from Sams Club. Nestle brand I think. Anyway, you could cut out that as the diffuser instructions say, then cut a hole in the center and insert some sort of red filter material. a DIY red filter.

Marduke, I've spent too much on flashlights lately, I think I'll go for the DIY homemade filter. I'll get the lens from a spare Fenix filter that I have and try to find a bottle cap or anything else that fits.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

When I find the right solution I'll post it here, with pics.

As the proud owner of both lights, I felt it incumbent on me to have a go at a couple of beamshots. I used a Surefire F05 filter held in front of the D10: it's too wide to fit, but it gives an idea of the effect with a filter.

These were taken in the ubiquitous stairwell:

The hotspot from the D10 is clearly brighter, although at distance the difference doesn't seem as much as the whitewall shot makes it appear.

Although the beam from the Proton Pro looks very ringy in these shots, it doesn't really affect things in normal use.

It's also worth mentioning that a MiniM@g with the red luxeon drop-in blows both of these away !

Would love to see what could be done with a red LED swapped into a D10 though . . .

Obtain some colored theatrical gels, and cut them to the size of the flashlight. Search it up.. I've made a few posts and tutorials regarding this.
