Nitecore D10

Help Support Candle Power:

I'm looking to get a D10-R2 before the end of next week and 4sevens shows not in stock, Amazon doesn't have the R2 edition and I don't have any experience with other light sellers.
So, should I hold out for 4sevens or does anyone have a suggestion for another seller? I'm in the US and was tempted to get one off ebay but shipping from HK takes a while and I need the first one before Friday. I'll be ordering at least one more after that but need one for a quick gift.

Thanks,

As far as I know, no one else is offering a lifetime replacement/repair warranty on Nitecores, not even Nitecore/Edgetac themselves (They only offer one year)! By the way, 4sevens is extremely well liked and respected here, so you're not going with just any fly-by-night retailer. I'd wait for them to get it back in stock. Their customer service is just so much better than Amazon, and that's saying a lot.

The site that the previous poster mentions, CFR lights, only offers a 60 day warranty on the light. After that, you'd have to hit up the manufacturer for any service you might need. Admittedly, there's not a lot that CAN go wrong with these lights, but it's nice to know that a company in Atlanta has got you covered. Keep in mind, Nitecore/Edgetac is located in China (unless I'm mistaken).

One more thing, I don't mean to badmouth CFR lights, I've never had any interactions with them. But a lifetime warranty is hard to argue with.

Excellent reason to go with 4Sevens! That's where my D10 R2 came from and I'm glad I bought it there.

These damned flashlights will be the death of me. Honestly, I've spent less time researching a house that costs many times more than this light! Or any car I've ever bought! It's somewhat comforting to know that there are others with this obsession.
Really, a flashlight is a flashlight, right? Wrong, once you're sucked into the world of modern flashlights you build a contingency plan for any situation. And I'm guessing that more than a few of us have done some caving or camping and understand just how important that last bit of light can be.
So I checked out CFR but I keep seeing such good things about 4sevens that I'm gonna hold off a couple days, and maybe just give a "It's in the mail" card to my brother 'til they get in stock. Jblackwood, I didn't even see the lifetime warranty! I've been wrong before, but I think it'll be a long time 'til 145 lumens out of a AA will be insufficient so that warranty rocks.

It's not the tools that you have at home, it's what you've got with you that you use. With that in mind there is no reason to ever curse the darkness with the state of the art flashlights available to us all now.

I just got a splashe D10 from 4Sevens and an EX10 R2... :)

While the EX10 works normally, the D10 doesn't : If I tighten the head fully down, the light stays on and the button doesn't work anymore. i already disassembled the head, everything looks fine, screwing together again I paid attention that the reflector is tightened on the lens (no o-ring?) and that the pill sits tight on the reflector.

It just seems as if teh piston was slightly too long, everything sits as it should. If I loosen the head only a little bit, everything works normally as it should work fully tight, momentary also works.

Anybody had this before? :candle:

A quick check of the warranty information on the 4 Sevens site indicates that they promise to repair any Nitecore products within a year of purchase. Where did you get the lifetime warranty information from? At one point I understand that they had a lifetime warranty on Fenix products, but this is now only 2 years. They offer a 120 month warranty on their own products, which I take to mean Quarks or Preons. Also, keep in mind that they've only been in business about 3 years. A lifetime is a looong time. I'm sure hoping everyone survives this economy.

Having said this, I've bought a number of lights through them and their service has been top notch I would agree. Recently I bought a Nitecore EZ Cr2 from them. They shipped the EZ 123 by mistake. I received the correct flashlight within a week after notifying them; they even paid for my shipping expense back (much to my surprise). So, bottom line, even without a lifetime warranty, 4 Sevens stands behind its products and is top-flight, IMHO.

I've not had the problem you describe, but my D10 does have an o-ring between the lens and bezel.

The D10 uses a slightly different head design than the EX10. I don't have an EX10 myself, but I have a D20 which uses a similar design. They have a seperate bezel ring which threads in to the head and retains the lens, reflector and light engine against a ledge inside the head.

The D10's light engine threads in through the back of the head and retains the reflector and lens against the lip of the bezel, which is part of the head. My D20 has an o-ring between the lens and reflector, my D10 has it between the lens and bezel lip. :)

And as for the problem in question, it does sound like either:

- The piston is too long/the body is too short
- There is some foreign matter between the back of the piston and the inside of the body tube, preventing it from returning all the way to the "rest" position
- The light engine is positioned too far back in the head
- The brass contact ring is too thick or has some conductive material caught between it and the driver board
- The threads on the head or body might be cut too far/deep
- The battery might be interfering with the contact ring. Try a different battery

Sure is an odd one. Hope you find the problem!

Good news : I found the problem. There is indeed an o-ring between the lens and the bezel (which is part of the body). That o-ring didn't sit as it should, so there was too much space left between the lens and the bezel.

Bad news : The last time I screwed it back together, with the lens sitting better (the o-ring seems to be too tight) it didn't light up again. Screwing the pill out, the failure was clear : The LED still stuck on the reflector while I had the pill in my hand, cables rippes off. :poof:

It wasn't Nitecores' fault, as it was the special splash edition which has been dis- and reassembled by Swissbianco and/or 4Sevens. The rest was obviously my fault, for one reason or another the LED probably got stuck on the reflector and I ripped the whole thing apart screwing on.

Well, it whined like no other I ever heard on high. I will get an R2 to replace it. Can't let that beautifull Sunspot without an emitter! :mecry:

The clip for my D10 was impossible to install because the threads tapped in the inner part of the clip were too large when they arrived. You could push the screw through the threads without turning the screw. The holes had been drilled oversized and the person tapping it didn't notice that the thread depth was not right.

I have to return the clip when I get time. I would not hesitate to wonder if the OP was having the same issue, but not understanding the source of the trouble.
