Nitecore MT40 vs Fenix E50

Here are the flashlights I like:

Nitecore MT40
+ More powerful
+ Longer distance (360m vs 260m)


FENIX E50

+ Can be used as a single battery flashlight for (quite) the same amount of power while batteries last roughly half the time when using the full torch
+More sensible (in my opinion) power settings (780-236-74-23 lumens, while the nitecore has 860-530-280-100)

I also think that using the fenix with only one battery could affect the efficiency of the batteries when used together since one will be more charged than the other.

I could get them for the same price, which one would you buy?

I just got the MT40, it is a bright light. I don't have the E50, but I do have the PD32 S2 and the TK15. They are both really bright single 18650 or 2 cr123 batteries. The PD32 is really bright for its size! Great spill as well. The low mode is great for looking around in the bedroom at night, and gets well over 100 hours of use on low.

It all depends on what you really use the light for... If you are collecting, this is not as important, but if you intend to use the flashlight and don't have many other altenatives, I would rather go with that which is most versatile. The E50 has a better spread on lumens with great runtime on 23 lumens, with is great around the house or camping. 74 lumens is great for walking outdoors. Anything above 200 lm and you use it at longer distances looking for something (which is probably 5% of the time), its too bright on bounceback from the ground for just walking around.

I own a couple of Fenix lights and love the current controlled light output without PWM flicker and with no noise. Not sure the Nitecore MT40.

It also depends on user interface, E50 has 0.5sec on then mode change with same button. MT40 requires head twist to access turbo etc.

MT40 has bigger head/reflector so will have hotter and smaller spot (MT40 33000cd vs E50 +- 15000cd), this is useful for distance but for everyday use a slightly larger hotspot is definitely prefrable.

Price: ??

Colour rendition: E50 promises neurtral white option - trust me, oudoors this makes a big difference if there is dew or dust in the air, with blue (cool) white, it can become a problem to see the target through the actual beam. Colours (reds, browns, greens) are easier to distinguish with colour closer to sunlight (neutral) - I think its easier for the brain or something.
