Been using for years. Don't remember if I can use any 14500 or any mAh. It is discontinued at Nitecore. They recommend a different one with a built-in usb connection. Thoughts? BTW can a battery with a usb connector be charged in my Nitecore charger? Thanks.

Most chargers will charge a usb cell and/or protected cell. Some don't however.
generally speaking, yes, you can charge your usb cell on a normal charger.

As for whether you should buy their updated cell, sorry I don't have experience there.

I use their NL1475R cells all the time, and the only way I ever charge them (generally @250mA) is in a standalone charger, unless I'm mobile / traveling.

Quote from NCstore on the 1475R:

"Yet, the battery does have the ability to recharge using a traditional charger providing multiple recharge options for users."
