The head will have to be larger to hold the bigger reflector required for the XP-G to get the same throw. As far as beam quality goes, the ring around the emitter on the XR-E is the culprit. The XP-G won't have that ring so the beam quality should improve.

Quark AA and 2AA XP-G lights with larger heads? Sign me up!

The Quarks wouldn't necessarily need larger heads. The xp-g is only 2 square mm, vs 1mm square for xp-e.
I bet 4sevens could drop an xp-g into the current reflector, but it wouldn't be up to 4sevens desired quality.

But yeah, bring on Quark:the next generation.

I have seen no news whatsoever to suggest the XP-G will have higher CRI.

I think your right about that. I must have crossed info with Cree's lighting fixtures that use red and yellow LEDs mixed in to raise the CRI to the claimed very high levels above 90.
