Hello,
I had heard that this was the freindliest place to learn about flashlight modding, so I thought I'd ask for help here.
I have no past experience in circuitry/currents/voltage as it applies to flashlights, however I build my own PC's, so I'm hoping a mid-range mod would be doable for me.
I would like to mod/build a flashlight that is in the 200 lumen range, and I'm leaning towards LED's because the general consensus is that they last much longer and do not get as hot. I don't want to spend more than $30 or have the final product unsafe (read: overheat/melt) or burn out (either the bulb or the batteries) in 20 minutes.
In short, Im asking alot - I want to be able to build a flashlight for around 30 bucks that wont break, overheat, has decent battery life, is as bright as a surefire light and will last. If this isn't possible (and although Im hoping very much so it is, Im skeptical) what are my options? I still want a flashlight like the one I described above.. how much would it be to build/mod a pre existing FL, or what is the best I can do at the 30$ price range?
Again, I have no previous experience, but I'm a fairly fast learner. As long as I don't need an electrical engineering degree for the project, I'd be glad to have a whack at it.

Edit: I have 2 mini-maglites (2xAA non LED older model) that I would like to use as a base/target FL to mod.
