'Noobie' question.

Keep the cost down. Never mind the charger and all. Pick up a pac of 5 or 10 cr123s and youll be running good for a long long time.You can buy them online for around $2.50 each:thumbsup:
 
Ok, I'll stick to the CR123's then. :)

After further research, I stumbled across the JetBeam III Pro ST BVC.

Now, it's only 2.8cm longer, so it's still small, and it's the same price.

I'm struggling to see why I'd get the NEX instead of the JetbeamIII!?

The Jetbeam is more powerful, lasts longer, and gets a great review from Selfbuild. I know it's 2 x CR123, but I do not mind that.

Would the Jetbeam III Pro ST BVC fulfill my needs? It seems on paper yes, but I'm a noob so i'd like a more knowledgeable persons input.

The most important factor is the shape of the beam. I can honestly tell you now that my TK40 at 600+ lumens is more powerful, but not as useful, for walking along a known route such as the pathway across the park. A much lower powered 100 lumen torch with a more appropriate shape beam will prove a far better solution. It's also possible to have far too much light for the task at hand (try reading a book with 600 lumens directed onto the page from 1ft away - it hurts!)

Think flood for 'what's in front of my feet', and throw for 'what's that over there?'

You can learn a lot by searching for 'beamshots' on these forums for the various flashlights you are interested in.
 
I have always liked the 2x cr123 sized lights not hugh and not too tiny.You will have a nice bright light with long run times.

I hope you get the chance to post back ofen and let us know when it will arrive and how that cool JETBeam is working out.

JetBeams are nice, have a great finish, I have found at least with mine that the PWM isn't the best for closeup work:green: But it's an older Luxeon III, and if you're walking your pets, wouldn't be an issue. Then there's always Malkoff Devices...:devil: Man I love my M60!:hitit:
 
I believe with the JetBeam Pro series you could even swap out the lens and put in a LDF if you wanted a soft beam...just an after-thought. Others may correct me though, but the ProIII ST is my next light I'd like or a NiteCore Infinity Defender R2 :naughty:
 
Hey everyone, I decided on my torch and I purchased a Nitecore Defender Infinity R2. Reason being as I wanted a torch ASAP and hadn't done enough research on rechargeable cr123 batteries.

So that a 2 x cr123 torch will be my next pruchase :)
 
I have an NDI. It is a very trim light to carry.
Willz, dont be spooked by the cr123 battery type lights. They are really great .

I own the first gen Jet III Pro ST which can only take 18650 cells. The version you are referring to can accept both 18650 cells and CR/RCR123s. Hence the 'BV' meaning 'broad voltage' as 18650 cells are 3.7 volts each whereas 2xCR123 = 3 volts each totalling 6 volts and 2xRCR123s are 7.4 volts.

The version you are considering can handle those different voltages, making it very versatile.

What you will like about the Jet III is that it is completely customizable, each of its 3 modes can be programmed to suit your needs and you can balance output with runtime, higher modes obviously eats more juice right? so tone down the light when you dont need so much light.

Get rechargeables and a charger, it's a one time cost which will pay for itself in time trust me on this. Head over to the marketplace and check out AW's sales thread. for cells. The cells that can fit your needs would be the 16340s (get the protected ones) and the 18650s.

the 18650 have higher capacity than 2xCR123s so they will last longer.

Hi all.

So I've had the NDI for a day now. I'm loving it. Using the torch for completely unnecessary jobs! Ha! Very pleased.

Got some Eneloops, and a charger as well.

Question, probably a stupid one, but hey I'm a noob:

1. The torch is water proof, now I have set my low setting, which involves turning the front of the torch slightly. With this turned, is the torch still waterproof?

Understandable...as long as the O-ring is not exposed, should still retain it's claimed water resistance. No need to dunk it to test the waters so to speak though.

That's what i do too :D, i can see what i am lookin at perfectly well but need to shine a light to see it even better, lol.

to ensure that it is, go find some silicon grease and lube the O-rings and threads, you can find silicon grease in shops that sell diving equipment.
