I'm not a collector, but I do remember a flashlight from a good number of years ago, maybe 35 or so.
I was interested in trapping at a young age and had sent for a catalog from FC Taylor Fur Company, if I remember correctly. They also sold, in addition to trapping supplies, item for hunting racoons at night. They had lots of lights but the one that sticks in my mind was a multi-cell unit, available in different sizes, but what I thought was really cool was the largest model actually came with a rifle sling attached for carry! I've mentioned this to folks but they are pretty skeptical. Anyone recall seeing such a critter?

Tom Dunn,
I've got a Ray-O-Vac Sportsman flashlight with the leather sling. The barrel pieces unscrew so you can use 3, 4, 6, or 7 D cells. I have it set up for 7 cells with a 6 cell bulb. Pretty darn bright. It's 19 long and the head is 5 inches in diameter. Made of chromed steel.
Regards,
Kirk

I still have one of those 7 cells, bought it when I was a kid.

It might be a good candidate for a 5 watt LS conversion???

Kirk, I do believe thats probably the one. As stated, its been a long time but I thought it was o so cool!

Hey Tom! Around 1954-55 I used to go 'coon huntin' with my uncle over in Arkansas. The men all wore carbide lights on their hats, but the shootin' light was this big ol' chrome flashlight with a sling on it.

I picked one up in a pawn shop last month for $5.00! Had a heck of a time finding a bulb for it and finally wound up with a six cell bulb. Sure is bright.

I've also wondered if it would make a good conversion to a 5W LED.

I had the 7 cell light with the sling in 1967. I used it one time to shine rabbits. Also along on the expedition was a Ruger Blackhawk 357 Mag loaded with 38 Short Colt ammo carried in a Lawrence holster. I walked home in the dark empty handed.
