I recently replaced my Nitecore D10 with a novatac 120t. I have to say that I really like the edc a lot and the tactical model seems to meet my needs atm. I was trying to get the back door hack working but I can not seem to click consistently for that long. I am having one issue though. I have been trying to remove the tailcap to install the clip but no dice. Any tips on how I might remove it would be appreciated. how do you remove bezel as well? Thanks

ouch hehehe, anyways with the bezel all you have to do is nuke a bowl of water for a miniute or so just to get it hot, then put the 120 in there and let it set for about 2 min. then get a mouse pad and put the bezel on the underside of the mouse bad and twist (the mouse pad can be replaced by the bottom of a tennis shoe or by one of those grippy pads for laying your pda on) that will get the bezel off. now for the tailcap...uhhh unscrew it! =D

hope that was clear as mud

Thanks I just got the tail cap off, man was it on tight I have been trying to get it off since I got the light in. Does the pocket clip scratch the light?

ouch hehehe

Did that come out harsh? I intended it to be friendly-sarcastic. Didn't mean any disrespect. Seriously, though, just unscrew it.

I've never bothered with heat, I just jam the bezel down into a 2x4 (or something soft that you don't care about marring up) and twist. Works every time, though it does take some elbow grease.

The clip can scrath the light, it's meant to spin around the light, bad design, but it works fine and won't do that much damage.

I like a rubber glove to remove the bezel, works fine for me.

Just got my 120E in the mail today from LAPOLICEGEAR, and experience the same "how the heck do I get the pocket clip installed?".
I guess i'll try the "elbow grease" method.
really funny thing is that the # on the user guide to call Novatac support is no longer in service. It was an Arizona # and maybe they moved.

Ok I got the tailcap off and got the pocket clip on. But no matter how hard I torque the cap to make sure its tight, the light won't work. I take the clip off and reattach the tailcap and it works fine. Is there another trick?

Something is definately not right here. Is the battery able to move/rattle inside the light? Do you think the battery is making contact with the + & - terminals? When you installed the belt clip, did the ring of the belt clip go over the O ring. Some people say that removing the O ring is required to fully seat the belt clip ring.

Try that.

James....

Novatac clips are so loose that there should be plenty of room for the tailcap to make contact. Are you sure that you put the clip under the O-ring?

i actually had to take the o-ring off, as suggested, so that the pocket clip could go on the outside of the body.
at first I thought the tailcap would sandwich between the tailcap and the body, this was my problem.
and I finally got my bezel off- this will be handy when I get my new replacement UCL lens to replace the factory polycarb.
heck, now that I know how to remove the bezel, I might take a dremel and make it "shiny". but i'm wondering if that will look good with the olive body.

So it sounds like you got it working correctly?

The polished silver does look cool against the Pewter and Black. The bezel looks cool either way and seems to be of better material than the clip

I took the finish off the clip to accent the look even more BUT the clip is just carbon steel so it begins to stain in a day for me :(. So I gave it a light coating of clear enamel and it maintains the shine now. Since the enamel is only so resilient, I can see I am gonna have to hit it again probably once every month or 2 as it wears off.

yep, my clip is on finally and light working.
my issue now is learning the UI. sometimes I can't get the emergency strobe to not turn off. I have to do the "battery detect" reset.
anyway, I guess a shiny clip would be nice, bummer about the carbon steel issues.
otherwise its a good light and I look forward to using it more.

Hey Cruise, too many negatives I cant figure it out.

You can't get the strobe to not turn off?

The clip though not the best of steels is actually quite functional and as clips go pretty good. good amount of tension, and a good width with plenty of contact surface area. It is easy to extract from a pocket and just as important, it is easy to reinsert over the pocket edge. Just leave the finish on .

Yep, once its on strobe it does not respnd to other clicks or presses. I have to remove battery abd do battery reset

I am not an expert by any means. If it happened in other "modes" also I would consider the contacts needing cleaning/tightening but this sounds like an issue with the electronics/programming inside the Light Engine. You might want to consider contacting Novatac for a replacement. You will be Very impresssed with their customer service. They will get you fixed up right away with minimal hassle to you. They will more than likely send you a new light with a return envelope prepaid to send the defective unit back to them.

then get a mouse pad and put the bezel on the underside of the mouse bad and twist (the mouse pad can be replaced by the bottom of a tennis shoe or by one of those grippy pads for laying your pda on) that will get the bezel off.

I know this is random, but, What a great suggestion to tighten/remove bezels!

Never even dawned on me - thanks

yep that will work on the early Novatacs . Then they started to use red loctite on the bezel rings. Now it seems they have stopped. Though mine was on tight there was not thread lock . I had to use a method a bit more substantial than the mouspad but it did come off relatively easy. So the mid production runs there is more of a chance of getting loctited components. This is all conjecture, I may have gotten one where they forgot to put Loctite on.

Get an RPM bezel ring for some great BLING!!!!
