Anybody seen the new Nite Rider MiNewt USB models yet? We just got them in and what a FANTASTIC little light! Every bit as bright as my Sol, but with a Li-ion battery for light weight. There is the regular one and the 'plus' model which includes helmet mount (this is the one I'm considering, think it would be perfect for winter commuting).

Anyways, I know the Sol used the same head as the MiNewt X2 models, but I don't think that these mini's do. The housing itself is clearly different anyhow. Beam patterns look very similar so I'm thinking the reflectors are the same, but does anybody know what they are using for the windows? How about the emitters, I mean they are definately SSC P4 in appearence, but are they in reality? And which bin?

BTW, NR advertises these lights to sell for $99 for the basic model

I approve of the price point. It gives them a fighting chance against the L2D Q5 / lockblock / AAs-&-recharger setup :) I saw our lead sales/ordering guy toting around a Sol in its package, and I told him he'd better put it on sale, price-match it, or whatever it takes to get it out the door before people see the Mini USB variants for way less money. I saw the Mini USB in one catalog for $85.

I like the price point and form factor too, but given the nature of this forum, how's the output? :)

NiteRider rates it 110+ lumens, making it more comparable to the Fenix E20 or the old L2D P4 than the L2D Q5, right?

It might have a better bike riding beam pattern though.

If our shop happens to get one, I'll try to kidnap one and do some real-world beamshots to compare it to the L2D Q5 with OP reflector.

Depending on how late I stay at work Friday (*cough* beer:thirty), I'll grab some beam shots if I stay past dark.

It looks like a plastic housing, maybe not. It is certainly lighter than the minewt. No mention of Borofloat lens, no multiple output levels, no mention of low battery indicator... but boy, that price for the base model is nice. The plus looks like a GREAT helmet light at 175g.

I guess my only question would be if the USB connector to the battery is as water resistant as the regular connector.

I doubt it, plus it doesnt use the same battery connector as the rest of the line; just a basic one (forget the name). Still not bad.

Sry no beam shots, haven't been able to get any yet.
