Nuwai .5W 1XAAA light

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

-EDIT-
After seeing the pic of it in hand, I'd like to retract the statement below.
-----------------
Read this thread with great excitement. Then I clik'd on the link and saw how big it is. Bummer.

I was hoping for Arc or Drocy 1AAA size.

Yeah... since the AAA is too large for many folks to put on a keychain, myself included, I'm waiting for the 1xAA with longer runtime.

The LED is Taiwanese high power LED.

I do not have Dorcy AAA, but a CPF User did a review and said it was smaller. Maybe the photo I put up, makes it look bigger. Here is what he said:

"Size: For comparison, my Dorcy 1XAAA LED is 3 3/8 inches long...the nuwai .5W 1XAAA measures in at a MINISCULE 2 & 15/16 inches long! Bezel diameter of the Dorcy is 3/4"...bezel diameter of the nuwai is 11/16", but has a wider reflector than the Dorcy."
web page of CPF user review.

I bought some 8mm white LED on Ebay shipped from HK, said to have 13 Lumen. I have not made any use yet. I did test one by connecting directly to a CR123. It was much brighter than the 20,000mcd 5mm LED. Can it be the LED that this light using?

I received my Nuwai .5W light in the mail today, and have posted my impressions in the reviews forum...NICE light for the $$!!!

It is both shorter and thinner than the Dorcy (see Nuwai .5W 1XAAA light Impressions for more info).
Hope this helps,
Pat

*Edit - Boy, was I ever way too slow looking up that link!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Clearly, this doesn't help at all.

No...the emittor in the Nuwai is smaller in diameter than a standard 5MM LED, and about 2/3 the diameter of a Lumileds 1watt luxeon.

I also bought some UFO, LS like, claimed 20 lux from the same seller. I haven't done anything with them yet. I notice that the emitter on the heat sink is samller in size than the LS. $5.00 + S&H a piece.

Better picture and a review here. web page

Ok. I retract my earlier comments about it being too big. Seeing it in hand puts it in perspective. I'm gonna place an order at their 2/$50 price!

Here is a comparison (sort of /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ). Be aware that I do not have this light. what I did was take advance marts picture and scale it to the dimensions stated on this thread and compare that to other lights. I hope this will help as a general size comparison.

Edit: I made the lenght 3 inches even. It was stated that the real lenght was 2 and 15/16.

This one sounds like a winner. I wonder if the 3 hr. runtime stated in the Advancedmart ad is realistic? Also, is it really regulated? Could this be the Holy Grail of affordable pocket lights or will that honor go to one of the future Peaks?

Geoff

Well, I doubt of any of the Luxeon Peaks will approach this price...

Can't wait to see those beamshots...

I arrived home a few minutes ago and found the .5 waiting for me. I ordered it a couple of days ago. This light is amazing for it's size. The price is well worth it. There is no sense in paying big bucks to some arc scalper unless you just have to have an arc.

I took some pictures of it with an arc and dorcy AAA that include my weak attempt at beam shots. If someone wants to tell me how to post them I would be happy to.

The brightness of this .5 blows the other two totally out of the water. It's construction and finish are very nice also.

My thanks go out to Advancedmart for getting these jewels.

Huge thanks to gorn for taking these pics for us! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif
