Are these good? They're not protected but are they safer than xfires when used in higher discharge applications. I plan to purchase 4 of these but i was wondering if the flat tops were suitable for use in series in longer tubular flashlights like the catapult or even threes for 1185 lights?

If i need to, how would i make a top for the positive terminals? I dont plan to use magnets because they can be dangerous. Just drop some solder on the terminal or what?

these LG's look pretty decent to me. Are they better than the AW 2600s interms f true capacity and discharge rates?

Of course i wont take the chance, i'm going for the pila ibc to chare these.

in a single cell application, those cells will do fire.. even those xxfires should do fine in single cell applications.

actually, it seems that trustfire and ultrafire are doing decently, quality wise.. haven't' really heard of explosions from them.

I think the TrustFires are the better of the two . ( IMO )

In a single-cell light, an Ultrafire 18650 isn't likely to explode. But that brand is ridiculously unreliable. Let me count the ways . . .

Sometimes their cells work fine, sometimes they drain too fast after charging, sometimes they don't charge at all, sometimes they only charge up once before never charging up again, etc.

Think of it this way, if you buy a lemon; your chances of getting into a horrific car accident are going to be very slim . . . since the car is going to spend more time at the mechanic's shop than on the road.
 
Thanks for the replies. But can we stick to those LG cells instead. The topic's not about other brands. The OP's questions have not been answered yet.

I wholeheartedly do NOT recommend you use those cells in multi cell applications.

that being said those should surpass xxxFire cells in capacity, but should only be used in single cell applications because of their lack of protection circuit.
 
For direct drive applications, I don't see a huge problem with folks who understand the risks and the operational requirements of li-ion cells using unprotected cells in reasonable numbers. I'd suggest no more than 3 in series so that if one cell "drops off" it will produce a noticeable effect on output... It's regulated lights that are the most likely to cause severe over-discharge or reverse charge before anyone would be the wiser.

That said, there's a good chance that the LG cells won't make contact without a modification in a series setup. I agree, magnets are not an option on unprotected cells....

Soldering is ill-advised on li-ion cells. A small spot welder to put some little raised bumps like what AW does would probably work well.

Have to wonder, is AWs cell an LG? heheh... It is interesting that around the time his 2600 cells came out, the LG 2600s became available at the consumer level as well.
