I work at a kitchen and bath showroom, which is beautiful, but the back room that we office out of is horrible. Flat white walls, tan cubicles, & cool white flourescents. I have taken on the daunting task of re-doing this room. My first step is to change out the lights. (Before I start looking at paint). I have learned more about flourescent bulbs in the last few days than I ever thought I would- and I'm still confused! lol...

What we have installed now are Sylvania 32w, 48", T8, 4100K, 700 Series Extended Performance. There are no windows so I want to make it feel more clean and inviting instead of so drab- so I thought switching to 'daylight' fluorescents would be nice. I looked at some 32w, 5000K Philips and Satco that had high lumens and CRI.

Do you think 'daylight' will make it feel more pleasant after its painted and decorated? Im worried it might feel harsh and cold.

Or should I be looking at going warmer vs. colder (in color temp.)?

I'm new to all of this, so I would really appreciate any answers, suggestions, thoughts.... I don't wanna buy cases of lights and have it look horrible!

Color temperature is a matter of personal preference. People don't always agree on what's best.

3500K seems to be most common, based on my experience.

Either way if you have 4100K now, don't expect miracles with a switch to 3500K or 5000K. Improving the CRI (your '700' number) to an 800, would be a good thing, if cost isn't a huge obstacle. But again, it's a subtle thing...
