Okay I'm stumped

While swapping my emitter I managed to tear the foam surround on the reflector. (since the hole wasn't quite large enough) Once I enlarged the hole I noticed the foam was a bit damaged so I removed it :thinking:

NOW I realize the reflector is conductive... I thought it was plastic... :green:

So how the hell do I isolate that reflector again so it stops grounding against my positive lead?
 
A lexan disc works fine.

just a plastic disc around the LED.. very commonly used :)
 
Might help if you mentioned what light you are referring to. Pics would be even better.

LOL, I could care less what your soldering looks like & I would never comment about it no matter how bad you think it may be. As long as the mod works as you intended that's all that matters. Just want to try & help get your light working again. :grin2:

How about a pic of the reflector then or the foam that was damaged?
 
You have any non conductive thermal epoxy? Paper, tape, nail polish, carbon fiber?

Cut a disk out of a tissue box.

I would somewhat agree with Sgt.LED. Rather than trying to find a solution to replace the foam, isolate the leads. This is assuming the MCPCB is attached to the heatsink instead of relying on the foam that used to be there to keep it in place. Nail polish would probably be the easiest solution assuming you have a female in the household. As the others have mentioned epoxy would work (doesn't have to be thermal epoxy) or cut out a disc of plastic like out of a blister pack.

After you fix it, don't forget to post beamshots of that dual XP-G drop in. :)
 
Thanks to all the help I cut the plastic out of a blister pack. Not as neat as the lexan disk but :rock:

as for the beam shots I'm still waiting on a driver. Right now I'm just putting out a not too bright supper floody beam 750ml split between two LED's doesn't exactly rock....
 
Those LED's are barely on tick over at 325mw a piece.

I'm looking for a 2000 to 2800mw driver that should really make them Cook!
 
3M 467 MP, with 200MP adhesive.

PM me your address and I'll send some to you. You just need a hole punch and some sharp scissors. The only side effect is that its a little thick (.005 for the plastic + .002 for the adhesive), so depending on the reflector and emitter used it might flood out the beam more than you'd like.

I like floody lights so this has never bothered me, and is worth the added safety. The DC boards I am using connect the LED+ directly to B+, if my LED+ touches the reflector its a HOT short across the 18650 :faint:
