They all officially accept rechargeable Li-ion batteries up to 4.2V

I use the AW RCR123a cells in my modified Surefire E1e. They feel well made, and it is reassuring to know that they have the short-circuit prevention and vent disable function.

Unfortunately, my E1e proved to be not so well made. Both the bezel cracked, and the tailcap internals shattered from a single fall. Still it is a very useful light when it works.

Because of where I am, sending lights back and forth is not a desirable proposition.

It is a headlamp that easily detaches from the headband to use as a flashlight. It is surprisingly small and a flood pattern. I am considering one myself. I have 4 of AW's RCR123As sitting here getting lonely.

The Nitecore NDI also fits this description. It is much more affordable than the Novatac p-120. The NDI accepts rechargables lithium ion 14500, lithium AA, as well as an easily available primary alkaline AA, or NIMH AA. It has only 2 modes but one of them is completely variable from 3 lumens up to 130 lumens. It is very compact in size and is a great EDC.

Lumapower IncenDio: It's small, 3 modes with memory, forward clicky, takes AW RCR123's with no problem, and the WD tint is very nice.

The RCR/CR123A NiteCore Extreme will have a similar continuously variable brightness system as the original 1AA NiteCore Defender Infinity - reviewed here.

You might also want to consider the continuously variable Jet-II IBS. I've just updated that review with beamshots of the focusing feature.

Buffalo, I´m so sorry you could not get the Twisty to Durban. You told about your wish of a good knurling. And I understood you like the higher quality side. Its only my opinion: take the NovaTac 120P, it is even more than an alternative to Twisty, you will like it.

I have both of them, they are real EDC torches. Surefire is good without any question, with both Manufacturers you are on the save side.

Don't sweat it Rainer... I can definitely see a Ra light in my future, but it probably won't be the Twisty. I have it on good authority that the Twisty is just the beginning....

I'm just wanting to do some research as I've been off the scene for a bit and wanted to catch up with what's what.

There are so many new developments its impossible to keep track of it all...

Quality is a concern, obviously, so not too cheap.

Can all these lights be used with rechargeables? This is where many like Fenix, Surefire, etc, fall by the wayside.
