After reading quite a bit I finally ordered one. What is your alls opinion on these? I got it because of the long battery life, and the low batt indicator. And also what other conversions are there for the mini-mags? And how would you compare them to the opalec? And finally, Are there any conversion for the 3 d cell mags? I ordered mine opalec from the bright guy site, bout how long does it usually take for there stuff to arrive? Thank you for any insight. I am new to this led stuff.. Snapper..

i ordered a ultra stinger from them and it arived in about 3-4 days i believe, they are held by most to be the best place to order flashlights online.
other options for the mini-mag include intretech 2aa, dat2zip's madmax and badboy, and lambda used to sell the ill-pill, all of which are luxeon based so they will be *much* brighter than the intretech, madmaz, then badboy, then ill-pill, then 2aa i believe in order of brighttness. i have never owned any however, so i can't compare.
ledcorp sells some pr2 based led bulbs for the 2 & 3'd' and 2 & 3'c' mags.

If you bought it for it's long battery life, then you chose wisely.
About the only other options for a 2AA long runtime LED light is the Safety Illuminator with 2AA lithiums or the CMG Reactor with 2AA lithiums.
Of course, the Opalec will work great off of any battery type, were AA Lithiums are about $2.50 each.

Opalec ... well engineered, satisfying reliable conversion. I have a number of AA LED lights and a few personal mods, all of which are for play, trying to squeeze out the maximum number of photons or to compare with each other (read: "flashaholic"). IMHO the Opalec makes a fine, usable utility light which I use w/o wondering if I could somehow "make it better"

I'm extemely impressed with my NewBeam...It has breathed new life into my Mini Maglite, which had been sitting idle.

Inretech.com adapters: non-regulated LED conversion for the mini, and they also have 3D drop in mods too. Uses 1W Luxeon so it's bound to be brighter than the Opaltec. No low batt indicator however, besides the diminishing light levels obviously.

This is not true, the InReTECH adapter does use the Luxeon LED and is *VERY* bright

Well it came by ups this morning.. It got here quicker than I expected. I ordered it wendesday night, and it was here today before lunch. So looks like I have a good place to buy stuff online. Now for the light. It took less than 5 minutes to install. My initial impressions were wow this thing is bright. After I get a chance to play with it, I will see what I think then.

I have the Opalec newbeam, and the InReTECH 2aa Luxeon Star, and several mod's made by people here, as Rothrandir mentioned.
The newbeam is GREAT, but not as bright as the InRetech. The InReTECH will last for a long while. The other mod's are WOW bright! but run for a shorter time.
I think the quality of the Opalec newbeam is just fantastic! I don't want to put down the product. I really like it, but the Inretech is brighter, and if brightness were my concern, the InReTECH wins every time, but still has a good runtime.
Now if you can get one of Mr. Bulk's LGI's, you will have a LED BEACON!

For those of you that have them, how does the newbeam compare to the other commercially available 3 LED lights (PT Attitude, Streamlight 2000?) in terms of brightness and beam?

Have Opalec(s) & PT Attitude. Attitude seems slightly brighter, and LEDs in the Attitude are clustereed slightly wider so you can just make out each individual beam on a ceiling. The Opalec gives a more focused effect.
If I were restricted to one or the other, I would opt for the Newbeam. Regulated - no dimming until the batteries are almost depleated. Also, The Mag AA is a classier looking piece of hardware.

Check out my runtime graphs for light output. I have been told my runtime for the Streamlight 4AA is off, but I have run the test 3 times with three different battery manufactures all with similar results.
I have to say I use the Opalec more then any other LED light I currently own, very nice upgrade to my fleet of mini-mags.

I don't want to take this further off topic, but a few sites say the PT Impact puts out 275 LUX at 2 feet. Does LUX = Lumen? Please point me to a FAQ if there is one...

Lux=lumens per square meter. Standard is for Lux to be measured at 1 meter distance so it is directly convertable to candella (foot-candles).
All of my measurements are at 1 meter. If I get closer to the lightmeter, of course the LUX reading will go up in the display since more light is striking the sensor.
A Photon II's Lux reading (1 led) is in the 1000's when it gets close to the sensor..... for comparison purposes such a reading is useless.
