Opalec fitted into PT Matrix - works!

Finished modding the PT Matrix normal bulb module by adding the Opalec module. Works great! Now the Matrix is a much more practical lamp! 3-4 times brighter than the original LED module. Still works by screwing the bezel in and the original watertight integrity is retained.

NamTinker, would you pleas give us details on how you converted the normal bulb module and, if possible, pictures?

I've been kicking around something like this. Is being able to aim the light worth the additional weight over a Maglite AA with Lithiums, an Opalec Newbeam and a NiteIze headband?

Details: Take one of the cheap mini mag flashlight clones. Remove the insides - One requires the base to seat the Opalec module into. A bit difficult to explain without detail pics but I'll try. The base unit (white in the pics) must be fitted into the PT module. One can remove the bulb etc from the unit. Then cut down the inside plastic bulb sleeve enough so the base and Opalec combo (with the black ring) fits inside the PT allowing a 4-5mm gap with the PT bezel screwed on. Drill a small hole through the center section of the PT center contact. This is bolted through the center contact (usually a hollow pin) of the base using a small 1mm bolt. Find a spring that fits inside the PT module bulb holder - tightly but still allowing contact to the side contact of the PT module. Open it up a bit so that it makes contact around the base (where the original base contacts against the torch body). When one now pushes the base into the PT module, the base center bolt should go through the drilled PT base. Attach the nut with loctite. Seal the top open edges with silicone. Fit a 4-5mm foam disc underneath the module. It works the typical way - screw it down to compress and make contact. Durability wise it is also advised to silicone or epoxy the Opalec module to the base. The PT bezel turns agains the Opalec module ring which turns agains the module shoulder. Friction there puts strain on the Opalec pins which should be avoided. Hope it helps.

It would definitely help to have a PT bulb module and the minimag clone base. Unfortunately I can only send Lux three more pics to post. One shows the foam "switch", the next a top view of the mini mag "base", the last shows the bottom of the PT module and the small nut/bolt. Unfortunately the complete module is now siliconed/glued together and I cannot get pics of the internals.
