Ok a search showed up many Orb threads however none showed me the answers I seek so I need a little input if possible.

I am pretty sure I am going to purchase an Orb Raw as my next toy and I notice from pics it is a pretty simple set up using direct drive. I plan to purchase a few extra batteries and the charger as well however feel I should get the cheaper 1 watt version and just change the emitter.

I have a nice TYOK waiting for a home and I am asking if the 1 watt will be the same as the 3 watt Orb sales if I change the emitter to a 3 watt? It would be much cheaper for me to do this as I have an emitter already here.

Does the Orb Raw come apart easily?...Is the 1 and 3 watt the same size body, reflector and lens parts?...Is the only difference the actual emitters??

Thanks....

The 1W and 3W is the same light whit different emmitters.
You could try to E-mail Rob and ask if he will sell you the light whitout emmitter.

Torben.

I never thought of that but I may just send him an e-mail. I see that he also sales the blank pcb board with heatsink so I may buy the 1 watt complete and than also buy a blank spare board. I will then have a 1 watt and 3 watt light that can easily be switched out.

Been there and done that. ;)
It won't be easy.
Take a look and see what I went through to make it happen after someone else almost killed his

Edit:
Hey!, I just got my orb RAW 1 watt 2 stage with tritium vial in the mail today.
It came with a cr2 battery. :)
The RWAH binned 1 watt led... :thumbsdow
Too pink, and underdriven.
An SX1K Luxeon3 on a spare board blows it away.
Here I go again, another Orb raw to mod and with a UYOK. :naughty:
I'll be selling the RWAH led somewhere when I'm done. :p

3rd shift I think I will keep the much more simply one level board for my 3 watt and if I do 2 levels I will use the 1 watt board I think. The other pics I have seen looked to be a much more "clean" set up than the pics you posted. I did not notice the multi level copper parts and stuff. It actually looked like a very easy job to un-solder and then re-solder the emitter.

Are there some type of newer boards now that are harder to play around with? On the web site the maker even says the 1 watt can be switched fairly easily.

Ok after looking around the web site more I now see that the package price includes the charger and battery with the 3 watt. That is a good deal so I may simply order the 3 watt and be happy. I could not figure out before why the 1 watt was so much...cheaper now I see.

Now if only I can decide between the Orb and Jil I can get on with my order...hehe thats a hard decision.

I just tried out the stock RWAH led with a lithium ion cr2 3.7 volt and it survived just fine.
Just like my LedLenser V2 "powerchip" 1 watt lights have at 1.5 amps running on battlebot grade Nimh N cells.
As soon as I finally tear up the RWAH (if that even ever happens), then I'll swap in a Luxeon3 UYOK into it. :)
