Orbtronic 16340s in Surefire G2X and E2D

Hi,

I did a search on Orbtronic 16304s and didn't find the answer to my question, so I am posting here. A few months ago, I bought a few Orbtronic 16340s with the intention of using them in my Surefire G2X and E2D. In the meantime, I did some reading on this forum about rechargeable Li-ion batteries.

My head is now spinning. Are these going to work safely with my Surefires, or should I stick with the non-rechargeable ones? For reference, I have an Xtar VC2s charger.

Any help is appreciated.

I didn't see a link to edit the post. I had a typo in the original.

Just get a Sanyo 4.35v 16650 and a charger like the Liitokala 100, or 202 dual bay and call it a day.

Two 16340 cells come hot off the charger at 4.2v, so two in series will approach 8.4v and that's probably bad juju.

16650s would be a good alternative. Thanks for the suggestion.

One question: if the 16340s are rated at 3.7V, why do they charge to 4.2V? Wouldn't they stop charging at 3.7V?

3.6v-3.7v is the nominal voltage, or roughly half the capacity—for the stuff that we commonly use, some manufacturers rate at 3.6v and some 3.7v, but no biggie.
