Here's some video that I shot of my ORC High Intensity Searchlight and Maxabeam.
I don't know the exact CP for the helicopter searchlight, I believe it's between 30 and 35 million.
It's on my brother Tim's website.

Thanks.

I *so* want one of those searchlights! Love the noises the motor makes as it moves around, it`s like something out of a Robocop movie!

I`d settle for a Maxabeam though. Mmmm....maxabeam......

Those are 2 very nice lights you have there /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif

I'm very envious at this point and I feel sure you don't need both of them so I will take one off yours hands /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink2.gifThat will probably make your neighbors for several miles around you happy also /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The ORC is considerably brighter than the maxabeam.
It uses a 300 watt HMI lamp. When directed up in the sky at night the beam is easily visible, very distinct from 1 mile away. I made a handle / toggle switch assembly for hand carry. My plan is to use five 6 volt 20 amp hour batteries in a backpack so I can go total mobile.
The video does not show it well but a dry leaf placed in front of the lamp will smoke in about 7 seconds. Right now I am using a 14 amp LAMBDA power supply at 28 volts DC.
If left on for too long at night it attracts vehicles down our lane like bugs to a zapper.

Re: ORC / Maxabeam Video

I got the one in the video off e-bay, 2 more from thecpsurplus. Every once in a while one will show up on e-bay, I think the last on there went for 900 some odd dollars. Sometimes they show up on the govt. liquidation website. It looks like you can still get bulbs from perkin-elmer. From what I can gather they were origionally designed for the blackhawk helicopter. I think they are retrofitting spectolab searchlights in there place. As far as the beam, it's not as narrow as the maxabeam but will throw a long long way. It totally blows the maxabeam away as far as intensity and throw. Hope to have some side by side comparisons comming soon.

Re: ORC / Maxabeam Video

I recall seeing a really neat clip on the development of the AC-130 a while go. Showed a guy holding a 2x4 in front of a spotlight mounted in one wheel sponson. The wood _exploded_ in flames.
