Osco 9 volt battery yields AAAAs

I just went to use my DVM and the low battery indicator came on. I changed the battery and as I was about to toss the dead one out I though I might crack it open to see if it had the 'AAAA' cells or the flat kind. It has the 'AAAA' kind.

Note that the connections to the cells are not welded on. Also the top snap connector could be re-used to make a 9 volt powered light.

Oh, and the polarity of the cells is just the oppisit of what you expect, the can is POS. and the nubbin is NEG.

Boy those are OLD. The Osco label has went through several label design changes since that label. All current stuff is what we call SOBA brand (Savon Osco by Albertsons). Albertson's has made 1 store label across all the stores to save money. You wouldn't believe how insanely cheap some of the store brand stuff is. It's scary!

And no I wont tell you our prices.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yep they are old. A DVM doesn't use much, so I figure that it's as old as it's shelf life.

I wonder if OSCO/SAVON/ALBERTSONS still gets their batteries from the same supplyer.

Beats me. Looking stuff in our computer just results in what warehouse it comes from. Might try looking on the newer labels, but I doubt that would say anything about the maker.
