Noticed a new press release this morning and thought it was interesting . . .

"When it launches the new Osram Ostar Medical, Osram Opto Semiconductors will be introducing the first LED component with a high color-rendering index (CRI) of 95 and the possibility of adjusting the temperature of the color white. This makes it ideal for medical applications – for instance in operating rooms, where a precisely controlled chromaticity coordinate and high natural color rendering are crucial."

The new assembly uses 4 LED chips (warm white, ultra white, green, and amber) and has a slightly larger footprint than the Cree XM-L

I was always joking about a flashlight with an adjustable tint...well, maybe we'll see it sometime in the future. Not holding my breath though.

How about "mesopically enhancing dull white" tints via converted green, then?

If there are enough interest I don't see why it can't happen. Crowd funding is available should a Custom flashlight maker decides to do it.

There have been tuneable-white arrays for some time - usually with alternating stripes of 2700K and 5000/6500K white. Suspect the efficiency and CRI are less than bleeding-edge, but they can certainly approximate any shade of white within their bounds.

There are also less-exciting dual-color SMD LED strips on the market that can do the same trick for relatively cheap.
