I've been hooked to outdoor adventures since 2009 and was able to do a solo night trek once and planning to do again sometime this year...

On September of 2009, I decided to Do a solo climb and started at 5PM at jump off, I carried a Generic 1Watt headlamp(about 40lumens), a DX cree 1xAA flashlight(60Lumens) and a Fenix E20(109 lumens). The first time I climb a 2k feet mountain and doing a night trek is a disaster in the making, I experince getting lost several times but the worst is when it gets totally dark in a forest leading to the mountain. I was using the headlamp and DX flashlight at that time and I cant seem to locate the trail as it was mostly covered by landslides cost by prior months rains. A few minutes gone by and still in search of the right trail I decided to just try climbing what I thought is a trail and only being led to a 80 degrees assault and a dead end at the top, I just thought I wont be coming home at one piece, nearly decided to call for help... back track and still looking for the right trail when I shone my lights to four eyes and then heard two dogs barking wildly then I just ran as fast as I can vertically despite the heavy packs and luckily I lost them. At that moment that I thought of using my brightest light with throw, the E20 and as I scout the area I saw the trail partially hidden by debris and overgrown grass. After that using the headlamp and flashlight for throw I was able to find the summit after 4-5 hours of trekking and climbing.

Lesson learned. Need to upgrade to a brighter lights.

I now Carry a Zebralight H51/SC50w and Solarforce L2 R5/Romisen RC29 nw in direct drive with 14500 in my climbs.

I have a climb on the 12th and just thought of sharing some of my adventures.
